B. Riley on $KTOS (Buy, PT $128): +170% Upside Potential
"We believe Kratos Defense & Security' fundamental momentum is, if anything, increasing, building on a record $605M of bookings in 1Q26 and a 1.6x book-to-bill ratio, which drove backlog to more than $2 billion, up $437M QoQ.
As such, we reiterate our $128 price target, based on a targeted 10.5x FY27 estimated EV/sales multiple, at a time when private comparable companies are garnering elevated valuations.
This includes Anduril, which completed a $5 billion funding round in May and is now reportedly in talks to raise a new round at a $100 billion valuation, while already sporting a $101 billion market capitalization based on its $113.89 price on July 24, as quoted by pre-IPO trading data platform Notice.
While KTOS' approximately 30% top-line growth is not as fast as Anduril's nearly 100% projected growth to $4.3 billion in FY26, we believe KTOS offers outstanding relative value at its current 4.3x FY26 EV/sales multiple versus more than 23x for Anduril. Further, as illustrated by our updated Space & Defense Technologies comparable-company analysis included in this report, KTOS is now also trading well below the 6.0x median FY26 EV/sales multiple of its public peers.
As such, we like KTOS heading into earnings and point to several high-profile wins in recent weeks as evidence of its continued success, including approximately $400 million in new Department of War funding for hypersonic systems and related programs, including the low-cost Erinyes and Dark Fury hypersonic flyers and KTOS' new Nemesis and Kraken initiatives; a $156 million sole-source, single-award IDIQ contract from the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration Office of Secure Transportation to provide a mobile counter-unmanned aircraft system in support of Project Solar Shield; a $100 million sole-source prime contract to produce a ground-based modular space-domain awareness system; and a $36 million sole-source award for a new air-defense missile system related to its C5ISR Mobility Systems business."
