Progyny(PGNY.US)

Barclays Downgrades $PGNY to Equal Weight from Overweight, Raises PT to $34 from $27

Analyst comments: "Proprietary analysis of website traffic at leading fertility clinics suggests utilization trends could be easing. We analyzed website traffic across 15 of the leading fertility clinics in the country, which we believe is a reasonable proxy for overall fertility utilization. During that process, we found there is a ~75% correlation between website traffic growth year over year and average revenue per member, adjusted for the large customer loss.

While the analysis is new to us, we would caution against using it to derive an exact revenue estimate, but we believe it can be viewed as a useful piece of information for determining directional trends as part of a broader investment analysis. Using that approach, website traffic grew 21% year over year in 2Q26, a slowdown compared with 26% in 1Q26, 38% in 4Q25, and 36% in 3Q25. In our view, the data still show a healthy utilization environment, but the deceleration suggests there might be some incremental headwinds on top of more difficult comparisons, which could warrant a more balanced view.

Given the high cost of fertility treatment and the eventual cost of raising a child, the decision to start fertility treatment is often influenced by an individual’s financial outlook. To that end, we note that the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index has trended lower in recent months, reaching historically low levels in 2Q. While fertility treatment tends to be less discretionary given some of the biological considerations, we believe a weaker consumer environment could lead some members to delay treatment until their financial outlook improves."
