China's leading DRAM manufacturer, ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), expects to report net profit of CNY131 billion to CNY132.5 billion (≈ US$19.58 billion to US$19.8 billion) for the first nine months of 2026, reversing a year-earlier loss as surging AI computing demand fuels memory chip shortages and higher prices.
In an earnings forecast released on October 16, CXMT, listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange as ChangXin Technology, projected revenue of CNY265 billion to CNY270 billion, up approximately 726% to 742% from CNY32.08 billion a year earlier.
The company expects net profit attributable to shareholders to increase by CNY136.28 billion to CNY137.78 billion, compared with a net loss of CNY5.28 billion during the same period in 2025. The figures are preliminary and unaudited.
AI demand fuels the turnaround
CXMT attributed its sharp earnings turnaround primarily to accelerating AI computing demand since the second half of 2025, which has strengthened global DRAM market conditions, tightened supply and driven substantial increases in memory prices.
The company also benefited from capacity expansion, product development and process technology improvements, which increased output per wafer and kept capacity utilisation high. Greater production scale and a more diversified product portfolio further supported profitability.
Beyond favourable market conditions, CXMT cited improvements in operational management, market expansion and closer cooperation with upstream suppliers and downstream customers. Continued R&D investment and process upgrades helped improve its product mix and production efficiency, reinforcing the earnings gains.
Buyback plan awaits approval
Alongside its earnings forecast, CXMT disclosed a share repurchase proposal submitted by Chairman Zhu Yiming on October 16.
The proposed programme would use CNY1 billion to CNY2 billion in company-owned or externally raised funds to repurchase A-shares through centralised bidding on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
The repurchased shares would be allocated to employee equity incentive schemes, employee stock ownership plans or reductions in registered capital, as reported by IT Home and National Business Daily .
Under the proposal, the repurchase price would be capped at 150% of the average trading price over the 30 trading days preceding board approval. The programme would run for up to 12 months following approval by the board or shareholders.
The plan remains subject to formal approval. Its announcement accompanies CXMT's projected return to profitability during an AI-led recovery in global DRAM demand.
