Japan's Yaskawa Electric plans to launch humanoid robots within the next one to two years and expects AI-powered humanoid robots to enter widespread use around 2030. The company also raised its revenue and net profit forecasts for fiscal 2026, citing a weaker yen, while lowering its operating profit forecast.
At a financial briefing on October 9, Yaskawa chairman and president Hiroshi Ogasawara said humanoid robots equipped with AI are expected to begin gaining broad adoption around 2030, according to reports by Yomiuri Shimbun , Nikkei Asia , and Reuters.
Yaskawa plans to first bring relatively mature products to market within the next one to two years before launching a full-scale rollout around 2030, Ogasawara said.
Yaskawa is a global industrial robotics leader with strong expertise in servo motors. In 2025, it acquired Tokyo Robotics, a startup spun out of Waseda University, and plans to use the company's core technologies to develop AI-powered humanoid robots.
Yaskawa also revised its earnings forecast on October 9 for the fiscal year ending February 2027. It raised its consolidated revenue target to a record JPY600 billion (approximately US$3.8 billion), up from the JPY580 billion (approximately US$3.67 billion) forecast in April 2026.
The company raised its net profit forecast by JPY500 million to JPY47.5 billion (approximately US$300 million).
Ogasawara said robust demand centered on AI and semiconductors has driven strong recent orders. Demand from data centers and other sectors is spreading globally, supporting continued order growth.
Yaskawa plans to accelerate production while improving operating profitability. Its capital expenditure is expected to reach JPY58 billion, broadly unchanged from JPY57 billion in the previous period.
Yaskawa announced the executive changes on April 10, with chairman Ogasawara additionally taking on the role of president effective May 27. Former president Masahiro Ogawa retired as a director and became vice chairman and executive officer to focus on medical treatment for a pre-existing condition.
Ogawa oversees the AI robotics business and new mechatronics application business.
