ASML reported record third-quarter 2026 net sales of EUR11.7 billion (approx. US$13.1 billion) and net income of EUR5 billion, while warning that its planned supply for 2027 and 2028 would fall short of customer demand. Growing AI investment is prompting the lithography equipment supplier to explore a larger capacity expansion for 2028, with some customers expressing interest in placing orders for 2029 and 2030.
The company forecast fourth-quarter 2026 sales of EUR14.2–15.2 billion and full-year revenue of EUR44–45 billion, according to its October 14 earnings announcement . Gross margin is expected to reach around 57% in the fourth quarter and around 56% for the year.
AI demand prompts ASML to rethink 2028 EUV and DUV capacity
CEO Christophe Fouquet said customers continued to raise their short- and medium-term equipment demand forecasts, primarily reflecting their expectations for the scale and duration of AI investment. Order-book momentum has strengthened each quarter this year, giving ASML greater visibility into future demand.
ASML is investigating ways to expand 2028 capacity beyond the 30% increase previously outlined. Its earlier plan called for a 30% increase in low-numerical-aperture extreme ultraviolet (EUV) and deep ultraviolet (DUV) immersion capacity in 2027 relative to 2026, with a further 30% increase under consideration for 2028.
Alongside additional equipment capacity, ASML continues to offer productivity upgrades that increase customers' wafer output from installed systems. Customers' interest in orders for 2029 and 2030 remains prospective.

Productivity upgrades lift 3Q26 gross margin to 57.5%
Third-quarter sales reached EUR11.662 billion, up 25% from EUR9.326 billion in the second quarter of 2026 and near the upper end of company guidance. Net income rose 70% sequentially to EUR4.960 billion, while basic earnings per share increased to EUR12.95 from EUR7.59.
Installed Base Management revenue, comprising net service and field-option sales, increased 19.1% sequentially to EUR3.289 billion. Strong demand for productivity upgrades brought this revenue above guidance and lifted gross margin to 57.5%, also above guidance, compared with 54% in the previous quarter.
ASML sold 113 new lithography systems and eight used systems during the quarter, compared with 86 and five, respectively, in the second quarter of 2026. Gross profit increased to EUR6.7 billion from EUR5.035 billion.
Cash reserves rise to EUR12.7 billion amid share buybacks
For the fourth quarter, ASML expects research and development costs of around EUR1.2 billion and selling, general and administrative expenses of around EUR400 million.
Cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments totalled EUR12.735 billion at quarter-end, compared with EUR7.582 billion three months earlier. ASML repurchased approximately EUR4.1 billion of shares during the quarter under its 2026–2028 buyback programme and will pay an interim dividend of EUR1.88 per ordinary share on November 4, 2026.
