AI server tracker: Taiwan ASIC design houses diverge as AI projects enter different revenue cycles
Scarlett Yu, DIGITIMES, Taipei

Taiwan's ASIC design-service suppliers all posted year-over-year revenue growth in August 2026, but the underlying figures point to sharply different stages of the custom-silicon cycle.
Alchip Technologies delivered the strongest monthly acceleration, while Global Unichip (GUC) maintained the strongest year-to-date growth profile. Faraday Technology also returned to positive monthly growth, though its cumulative revenue remained well below last year's level.
The divergence suggests that AI ASIC demand remains strong, but revenue recognition increasingly depends on whether individual projects are still in design and NRE stages or have moved into wafer production and volume manufacturing.

GUC sustains structural AI ASIC growth
GUC generated NT$5.840 billion (approx. US$184.4 million) in August revenue, up 1.2% month-over-month and 111.0% year-over-year. January–August revenue reached NT$36.954 billion, up 103.8% from the same period in 2025. The company said increased wafer-product revenue remained the principal driver.
GUC's official financial disclosure confirms the August revenue and cumulative growth figures.
The sustained increase reflects GUC's exposure to advanced-node custom silicon, where demand is being driven by hyperscalers developing proprietary AI accelerators. The company has continued expanding its 3nm and 2nm design pipeline while adding capabilities around HBM, chiplets, and advanced packaging, positioning it further up the value chain as AI systems become increasingly customized.
Alchip enters a sharper production ramp
Alchip posted August revenue of NT$8.776 billion, up 18.1% sequentially and 273.6% year-over-year. Its January–August revenue reached NT$27.895 billion, up 13.6% year over year. Latest statistics suggest the sharp monthly increase is due to higher mass-production product revenue.
The August surge represents a clear shift from Alchip's weaker first-half comparison base. In Q2, Alchip said 87% of quarterly revenue came from 7nm-and-below process technologies, underscoring the company's concentration in advanced-node HPC and AI ASICs.
The contrast between August's 273.6% growth and the much lower 13.6% cumulative increase illustrates how rapidly design-service revenue can change once projects move from development into production.

Faraday shows a more uneven recovery
Faraday recorded August revenue of NT$1.184 billion, up 11.5% month-over-month and 29.9% year-over-year. However, January–August revenue remained down 41.1% at NT$8.148 billion.
Its recovery therefore remains less uniform than GUC's or Alchip's. Faraday retains exposure to mature-node ASICs, edge AI, and turnkey production, but its cumulative performance still reflects earlier weakness in mass-production volumes.

August's numbers show that Taiwan's ASIC design houses are benefiting from the same custom-AI trend, but not at the same point in the cycle. GUC reflects sustained scale, Alchip a rapid production ramp, and Faraday an uneven recovery—highlighting how project timing is becoming as important as end-market demand in determining design-service revenue.
