WinWay revenue surges on AI chip pin-count demand

Semiconductor test interface maker WinWay said AI-related orders drove August 2026 revenue to NT$1.706 billion (US$53.8 million), up more than 2x year-over-year and a record high for a single month. The company also posted its fifth straight month of month-over-month growth, its third consecutive monthly revenue record, and said cumulative revenue for the first eight months of 2026 rose nearly double, beating expectations.
WinWay's consolidated revenue for August 2026 reached NT$1.706 billion, up 6.58% month-over-month and 233.37% year-over-year. Revenue for the first eight months of 2026 totaled NT$9.81 billion, up 97.88% year-over-year.
As AI chips continue to move toward larger packages, higher power consumption, and higher pin counts, WinWay said traditional CPU test sockets used to have about 5,000 to 6,000 pins, but mainstream AI chips now have 10,000 to 13,000 pins. The number of projects with more than 10,000 pins has already exceeded 20, and the pin count of customers' next-generation products is approaching 20,000.
For WinWay, higher pin counts not only lengthen socket manufacturing time and accelerate capacity consumption, but also extend standard lead times from 8 weeks to more than 13 or 14 weeks. For customers, test time also rises, meaning more equipment and consumables are needed to maintain output.
Facing surging demand from global AI customers, WinWay expects tight capacity to continue through the first quarter of 2027. Once new capacity comes online, total capacity in the second and third quarters is expected to rise by about 50%, while the company continues seeking capacity partnerships and outsourcing non-core processes to increase flexibility in capacity allocation.
On its co-packaged optics (CPO) strategy, WinWay said it has secured more than 10 related projects and is entering Insertion 3 and Insertion 4 with socket solutions, covering major global customers and reaching an initial market share of more than 90%.
The company also recently published a technical article in Advanced Packaging , titled 'Optical engine fragmentation: The critical bottleneck to CPO volume production', which examines how the diversity of optical engine specifications has created today's fragmented CPO market. WinWay said that only when the industry converges on optical engine standards can CPO become economically viable and mass-producible.
