China's JCET seeks US$968M for AI-driven packaging expansion

JCET Group is preparing a CNY6.5 billion (approx. US$968 million) private share placement to expand advanced packaging and testing capacity across high-performance computing (HPC), power modules, wafer-level packaging and memory, sharpening its exposure to AI infrastructure and China's domestic semiconductor supply chain.
The Chinese outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) supplier said on September 4 that CNY4.6 billion of the proceeds will fund four production projects, while the remaining CNY1.9 billion will be used to replenish working capital and repay bank loans, per company filings.
The plan centres on areas where rising AI workloads are increasing packaging complexity and power and memory requirements. JCET is targeting higher integration density for compute chips, stronger packaging support for AI data center power systems, expanded bumping capacity and denser multi-chip memory packages.
HPC packaging takes the largest share
The largest individual allocation, CNY1.5 billion, will go to an advanced packaging expansion for HPC applications at JCET Microelectronics (Jiangyin) Co.
The project carries a total investment of about CNY2.35 billion and is designed to increase advanced packaging and testing capacity for ultra-high-performance computing chips, server processors and networking devices.
JCET also plans to advance its XDFOI packaging platform toward higher chip integration and interconnect density, while extending the technology toward co-packaged optics.
The investment reflects the growing importance of advanced packaging in AI systems, where chiplet integration, high-bandwidth interconnects and increasingly heterogeneous architectures are becoming critical to system-level performance as conventional transistor scaling delivers diminishing gains.
Another CNY1 billion will be directed to upgrading advanced packaging and testing capacity for high-end power modules at JCET (Jiangyin) Co. The project, with total investment of about CNY1.64 billion, will expand FCLGA packaging and module capacity for high-end power semiconductors.
JCET is targeting power chip suppliers, cloud service providers and data center operators, positioning the investment around the rapid increase in power density associated with AI infrastructure.
Wafer-level and memory packaging broaden AI exposure
A further CNY1.1 billion will support an upgrade and expansion of JCET's wafer-level packaging platform through Jiangyin JCET Advanced Packaging Co.
The project has a total investment of about CNY1.83 billion and will primarily expand bumping capacity, strengthening JCET's integrated "bumping + packaging + testing" service model and supporting the introduction of higher-value processes.
The company also plans to invest CNY1 billion in upgrading system-level packaging and testing for high-density, high-capacity memory chips through Xingke Jinpeng Semiconductor (Jiangyin) Co..
That project, with total investment of about CNY1.85 billion, will use wire bonding and flip-chip technologies for products including FBGA and FCCSP memory packages. Multi-chip stacking will be used to raise storage density and capacity, with the expansion primarily serving Chinese memory customers.
The four production projects are expected to take roughly 20 to 36 months to complete.
According to supplementary disclosures cited by ICsmart and Shanghai Securities News , the placement will target no more than 35 investors, including JCET's controlling shareholder Panshi Runqi (Shenzhen) Information Management Co., which plans to subscribe to 22.53% of the total funds raised. China Resources will remain JCET's ultimate controlling shareholder after the transaction.
AI demand strengthens JCET's earnings base
The fundraising comes after a stronger first half for JCET. The company reported first-half 2026 revenue of CNY19.53 billion, up 4.96% from a year earlier and a record for the period. Net profit attributable to shareholders rose 79.41% to CNY845 million, while adjusted net profit increased 84.73% to CNY808 million.
Second-quarter net profit reached about CNY554 million, nearly 90% higher sequentially. First-half gross margin rose 1.68 percentage points year on year to 15.15%.
JCET attributed the improvement to rising demand from AI infrastructure and edge devices, stronger customer orders and high capacity utilisation.
The latest fundraising therefore extends an investment cycle already supported by improving utilisation and profitability. Rather than adding capacity in a single packaging segment, JCET is spreading capital across compute, power, wafer-level processing and memory, giving it exposure to several of the semiconductor functions being reshaped by AI.
China's broader OSAT sector is expanding along similar lines, with Tongfu Micro, Huatian Technology, Forehope, SJSemi and Shenzhen Kaifa Technology among companies that have announced additional capacity this year. Industry investment plans across China's packaging and testing sector have approached CNY50 billion in 2026, underscoring how advanced packaging is taking on a larger role in the AI semiconductor value chain.
