不做 寒武纪-U(688256.SH)(688256.SH)

Chinese tech firms deepen open source push amid AI pacing debate

As US AI executives warn that artificial intelligence development may need to slow down, Chinese companies are pressing ahead with open source tools and large-scale deployment. The gap matters far beyond China, because the next phase of AI competition may be shaped as much by collaboration and standards as by chips and model size.
Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei recently urged the AI industry to slow the pace of development, warning that AI agents could soon be able to run much of the internet. OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman and SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk echoed similar concerns, but at a major open source gathering in Shanghai, the mood was markedly different.
At the recently concluded KubeCon + CloudNativeCon + OpenInfra Summit + PyTorch Conference China 2026, Chinese technology companies showed little sign of slowing AI development despite continuing US restrictions. Instead, they emphasized open source as a way to accelerate product rollout and scale up capabilities.
During the event, the PyTorch Foundation said Alibaba Cloud, Cambricon, and Ant Group had officially joined as members. Alibaba Cloud and Cambricon became Platinum members, the foundation's highest tier, while Ant Group joined as a Gold member. With Huawei already involved, Chinese companies now hold three of the foundation's 14 Platinum seats.
Over the two-day conference in Shanghai, Huawei, Alibaba Cloud, Ant Group, and Cambricon presented updates on AI models, AI accelerators, cloud infrastructure, and AI agents. Their projects ranged from Huawei's Ascend accelerator chips and PyTorch integration to Alibaba Cloud's Qwen model scheduling across clusters, Ant Group's secure sandbox runtime for AI agents, and Cambricon's performance tuning across hardware backends.
The common thread was heavy reliance on open source software to move from experimentation to deployment. That pattern is also spreading into traditional industries. China Merchants Bank, the country's sixth-largest lender by assets, described how it is using Kubernetes and KEDA to dynamically schedule GPU resources, while also rolling out AI agents internally as "digital employees."
Jonathan Bryce, executive director of the CNCF and OpenInfra Foundation, said Chinese companies have shifted from being mainly users of open source to becoming contributors, and in some cases leaders, of major projects. He pointed to Chinese-origin projects such as Volcano, Karmada, and HAMi, and said local developers tend to adopt new tools quickly.
The contrast with the US remains sharp. While American firms continue to debate AI safety, export controls, and the pace of model development, Chinese companies are using open source communities to narrow technology gaps step by step.
