AUO is positioning its growth around artificial intelligence, diversification, and cooperation across the group as the display technology company marks its 30th anniversary. Chairman and CEO Paul Peng said the company will build on three established businesses while seeking fourth and fifth growth pillars through technologies and partnerships.
AUO marked the anniversary with a sports day at Hsinchu County Stadium on October 17, bringing together nearly 9,000 employees and family members from companies across the group.
Peng said AUO had developed into a global group with more than 40,000 employees from 20 countries and 48 nationalities. The group will continue strengthening collaboration under its "One Team, One AUO" philosophy, as it seeks to build a smarter, more sustainable, and more resilient enterprise.
From displays to AI growth engines
AUO was founded in the display technology industry and, over three decades, has expanded from product manufacturing into solution-based value creation. Its business portfolio now covers display technology, mobility solutions, and vertical solutions.
The company is using what it calls its "four AI arrows" to develop forward-looking businesses as artificial intelligence drives industry transformation. By combining resources from across the group with ecosystem partners, AUO is accelerating the commercialization of technologies, applications, and business models.
Areas under development include co-packaged optics, advanced semiconductor packaging technologies involving glass core substrates, augmented-reality glasses, and low-Earth-orbit satellite communications antennas. The company said these efforts are intended to support the creation of additional growth engines beyond its three core businesses.
AUO has also established the Innovation Research Institute to integrate technologies and adjacent capabilities accumulated over the past 30 years. The institute will pursue technological breakthroughs and business opportunities aligned with the company's four AI arrows to develop fourth and fifth growth pillars.
From small tigers to big tigers
Peng said AUO's affiliates include AUO Mobility Solutions, AUO Display Plus, Yenrich Technology, AET SustainTek, Daxin Materials, Star Shining Energy Holdings, and Darwin Precisions. Their businesses cover display technology, mobility solutions, healthcare, retail, enterprise, education, smart manufacturing, low-carbon sustainability services, and green energy.
He described the affiliates as AUO's "small tigers," but said they could eventually grow into strong "big tigers." The group plans to expand its overall business portfolio by integrating resources and promoting cross-industry collaboration.
Looking ahead, AUO will maintain its operating foundation through its three core businesses while using the Innovation Research Institute and its four AI arrows to pursue new opportunities. It will also deepen cooperation among group companies as it works to strengthen its position as a technology-driven enterprise.
