China's up to 99.2% anti-dumping duty on Japan DCS boosts local chip material suppliers

China has imposed provisional anti-dumping measures on Japanese dichlorosilane (DCS), a semiconductor material used in thin-film deposition, potentially accelerating Chinese wafer fabs' shift toward domestic suppliers.
China's Ministry of Commerce said on September 7 that Japanese DCS imports were being dumped and had caused material injury to the domestic industry, setting dumping margins at 80.8% to 99.2%. From September 8, importers must lodge deposits with Chinese customs at those rates, according to Economic Daily News . A final ruling will follow further investigation.
DCS is used to deposit epitaxial silicon carbide, silicon nitride, silicon oxide and polysilicon films in the production of logic, memory and analog chips. It is also a feedstock for silicon-based precursors and polysilazanes.
The investigation began after Tangshan Sunfar Electronic Materials Co., a subsidiary of Tangshan Sunfar Silicon Industries Co., filed a complaint on behalf of China's DCS industry in December 2025.
Japanese imports remained dominant during the investigation period even as Chinese suppliers gained ground. Their share of China's DCS market fell from 79.63% in 2022 to 65.64% in 2024 and 59.52% in the first half of 2025, according to preliminary findings reported by Shanghai Securities Journal .
Import volumes were 265,370 kg in 2022, 236,540 kg in 2023, and 292,750 kg in 2024, compared with 145,820 kg in the first half of 2025.
Japanese DCS prices fell from CNY323 (US$48.13) per kg in 2022 to CNY220 in the first half of 2025. Chinese product prices declined from CNY100 to CNY91.50 per kg over the same period.
Investigators found that downstream customers had used Japanese import prices as a benchmark to demand lower prices from Chinese suppliers, which risked losing orders if they refused. The ministry preliminarily concluded that Japanese imports had suppressed domestic prices.
Chinese suppliers ramp up DCS capacity
The ruling comes while Chinese suppliers are expanding electronic-grade DCS capacity and seeking semiconductor customer qualification.
Tangshan Sunfar Electronic Materials has an annual capacity of 500 tonnes and plans to expand it to 850 tonnes.
Jinhong Gas is bringing DCS into trial production under its High-end Electronic Specialty Materials Project. The company expects an annual capacity of 200 tonnes at full production and is testing the material with semiconductor customers.
Hubei Heyuan Gas has also put electronic-grade DCS into trial production at the first phase of its Yichang Electronic Specialty Gases and Functional Materials Industrial Park. It has targeted stable production, volume manufacturing, customer certification and sales during 2026.
Hubei Heyuan Gas said in its first-half 2026 report that potential disruption to overseas supplies had become a risk that Chinese wafer fabs increasingly needed to hedge, potentially accelerating domestic supplier qualification and localisation of high-end electronic gases.
China's preliminary findings showed domestic DCS demand rising steadily, with local production, sales and market share also increasing. The provisional deposits of up to 99.2% could further improve the competitive position of Chinese producers, but capacity alone will not determine the outcome: semiconductor-grade materials must still clear lengthy customer qualification before they can meaningfully displace Japanese supply.
