Japanese robot maker FANUC raised its fiscal year 2026 revenue forecast on October 23 as demand for AI and automation strengthened, putting sales on track to surpass JPY1 trillion for the first time. The company also expects operating profit and net profit to reach record highs.
According to Reuters , Nikkei Asia , Bloomberg and company information, FANUC lifted its fiscal year 2026 revenue forecast, covering April 2026 to March 2027, from JPY948.1 billion (approximately US$6.049 billion) to JPY1.0137 trillion (approximately US$6.468 billion). The forecast would represent a record high and mark the first time revenue has exceeded JPY1 trillion.
FANUC raised its operating profit forecast by JPY22.7 billion, projecting a 31% year-on-year increase to JPY240.7 billion. Consolidated net profit is expected to rise 37% year-on-year to JPY228.3 billion, up from the previous forecast of JPY198 billion.
The new net profit outlook is JPY30.3 billion higher than the previous forecast and would be the company's first record high in 12 years, exceeding the JPY207.5 billion recorded in fiscal year 2014, when investment in smartphone-related equipment drove earnings. It would also top the JPY206.3 billion average forecast of 19 analysts compiled by the London Stock Exchange Group's IBES.
AI and automation lift demand
Factory automation (FA) is driving the earnings growth. FANUC primarily manufactures NC systems and servo motors that precisely control machine movements.
In its robotics business, demand for automation investment, including AI-related applications, remains strong, particularly in the Americas and China.
FANUC said automotive investment in the Americas has shown signs of recovery. In China, demand for machine tools used in AI data centers, semiconductors, machining components for humanoid robots and new energy vehicles (NEVs) is particularly strong.
At a financial results briefing on October 23, FANUC President Kenji Yamaguchi said the increase in AI-related demand represents a medium- to long-term growth opportunity for the company.
Orders are also increasing for metalworking machinery used in cutting and metal forming.
FANUC did not disclose full-year forecasts for each business segment, but revenue rose 15% year on year from July to September, while orders surged to 2.3 times the year-earlier level, reaching JPY112.2 billion.
Component shortages stretch deliveries
Supply constraints, however, are emerging. As global capital equipment demand expands, sourcing connectors, semiconductors and other components has become more difficult than in the past, and production capacity reportedly cannot keep pace with order growth.
Yamaguchi said delivery times are lengthening and emphasized that the issue is a challenge facing the entire industry. An industry report also identified procurement problems as a major issue for FANUC.
Like other manufacturers, FANUC is facing higher costs for semiconductors, other electronic components, and transportation. The company is working to secure raw materials and components while reducing costs.
Margins improve as orders stay strong
FANUC's operating margin for fiscal year 2026 is expected to reach 23.7%, improving 2.3pp from fiscal year 2025. However, the operating margin in the second half of fiscal year 2026 is expected to decline slightly from the first half because of higher component procurement costs.
The book-to-bill ratio, a measure of order momentum, reached 1.26 from July to September, maintaining the high level of 1.22 recorded from April to June. Within inventory, "raw materials and supplies" declined 13% from the same period a year earlier.
