HCLTech has opened a new semiconductor laboratory in Bengaluru, a move that could matter for chipmakers and device makers worldwide as they look for faster testing, qualification, and failure analysis. The facility is designed to shorten development cycles, support production quality, and strengthen India's role in the global semiconductor ecosystem.
In a September 8 press release, HCLTech said it has launched an Advanced Semiconductor Lab in Bengaluru after investing INR 1.85 billion (US$19.5 million) in a facility intended to expand its post-silicon engineering capabilities.
Cleanrooms and testing capacity built for global clients
The 40,000-square-foot lab includes 25,000 square feet of Class 10K and 1K cleanrooms and is equipped for electrical validation, automated testing, qualification, and failure analysis. HCLTech said the site supports research and development, pre-production, and production qualification for global clients, helping reduce turnaround times and simplify semiconductor workflows.
The company said the lab uses equipment from Teradyne, Advantest, Keysight, Tektronix, and Thermo Fisher Scientific. It also aligns with HCLTech's Spec2Parts model, which links design specifications with the process of delivering finished semiconductor components.
Hari Sadarahalli, corporate vice president and global head of engineering and R&D services at HCLTech, said the lab reflects the company's commitment to high-end engineering and India's broader ambitions in advanced technology. He said the facility marks a milestone for both HCLTech and the country's growing semiconductor capabilities.
HCLTech said the lab is intended to close gaps in India's semiconductor landscape by combining testing infrastructure with skilled engineering teams. The company said this approach should help customers access more comprehensive services and improve efficiency across the development chain.
Certifications and equipment aimed at aerospace and medical markets
The Bengaluru site is expected to pursue certifications including ISO 17025, ISO 9001, AS 9100 for military and aerospace work, and ISO 13485 for medical applications. Its toolset includes advanced automated test equipment, qualification chambers, optical and electron microscopy, and focused ion beam systems.
HCLTech said the facility will serve both domestic and international markets and forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen its semiconductor business. The company employs more than 223,000 people across 60 countries and reported consolidated revenue of US$14.8 billion for the 12 months ended June 2026.
