Chinese EV giant and AI mobility manufacturer XPeng has made a major appearance at the Paris Automotive Summit by bringing not just its automotive expertise into the European collaborative space, but a broader technology stack built on the automaker's existing strengths in EV manufacturing and humanoid robotics.
As the first Chinese automotive CEO to deliver a keynote in the history of the Paris Automotive Summit, Xiaopeng He used the stage to deepen XPeng's European ambitions through technology transfer and broader application of the company's full-stack capabilities across the physical-AI ecosystem. XPeng's own announcement framed the strategy around opening its in-house technology and engineering resources to international partners rather than limiting cooperation to vehicle sales.
At the summit, He introduced the company's collaboration initiative under "XPENG AI ENGINEERING," outlining a global release of full-stack technologies spanning vehicle platforms, AI driving, chips, batteries, and production toolchains.
Envisioning a broader market opportunity across its physical-AI ecosystem, XPeng intends to extend those technologies into embodied-intelligence applications including humanoid robots, robotaxi, flying cars, Turing AI chips, and physical-world foundation models.
XPeng's push into Europe comes as Chinese automakers face mounting pressure to prove that overseas expansion can become more than a vehicle-export strategy. Europe is increasingly central to that effort as domestic competition remains intense and Chinese groups seek longer-term footholds in overseas markets.
Reuters reported that XPeng is already preparing to expand European production ahead of upcoming local-content rules, underscoring how localization is becoming increasingly important to Chinese EV makers seeking durable regional growth.
Against that backdrop, XPeng is attempting to monetize not just vehicles, but the engineering system behind them. Its Paris strategy effectively asks whether Chinese automakers can export the architecture, software, and development processes that helped them compress product-development cycles at home.
Full-stack capabilities become a commercial product
XPeng's engineering package spans three main layers.
At the vehicle-platform level, the company is opening flexible architectures ranging from compact to large vehicles, 10Gbps automotive Ethernet, steer- and brake-by-wire capability, and Level 3-oriented redundancy. The company says its in-vehicle network can raise data transmission speeds by 33 times.
At the modular level, XPeng is offering its second-generation vision-language-action (VLA) intelligent-driving system, AI BOX, Turing AI chip, 8C battery, high-efficiency electric drive, and 15-minute whole-vehicle over-the-air update capability. Its AI BOX is designed to support 30-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts models locally, while the 8C battery can charge from 10% to 80% in eight minutes.
The toolchain extends further into remote calibration, end-of-line vehicle testing, and AI diagnostics. XPeng says the system can save 41 minutes of inspection time per vehicle and reduce annual electrical-inspection operating costs by 95%.
The significance lies in bundling those capabilities as an engineering service rather than licensing isolated components.
Volkswagen becomes the reference case
Volkswagen provides XPeng with a crucial proof point.
Their cooperation began in 2023, when Volkswagen invested in XPeng and the two companies established a strategic technology framework. The relationship has since expanded into jointly developed vehicles and electronic architecture.
Volkswagen says the ID. UNYX 09 was co-developed with XPeng in 24 months, while its broader China strategy increasingly relies on locally developed electronic architecture and AI capabilities.
Leading Chinese media outlet Phoenix New Media also notes that cooperation now extends from underlying electrical and electronic architecture through complete vehicle development.
That gives XPeng something more valuable than a technology showcase: a large global automaker already demonstrating that its engineering stack can be integrated into another manufacturer's development process.
Europe becomes the test for technology exports
The Paris Motor Show itself illustrates how quickly that competitive environment is changing. Chinese automakers represented roughly one-third of exhibitors this year, while European manufacturers are increasingly adopting Chinese engineering partnerships to accelerate EV development.
XPeng is also extending the same collaboration logic into physical AI. Its official Paris roadmap targets global expansion of its Next Generation Pilot (NGP) driving system in 2027, IRON humanoid-robot mass production in late 2026, first deliveries in the first half of 2027 and a European rollout later that year.
If the model scales, XPeng's overseas strategy could evolve beyond exporting Chinese EVs toward exporting the architecture, software, and physical-AI systems used to build them — giving Chinese automakers a deeper role inside the global auto industry than vehicle sales alone.
