Intel CPU prices reportedly rising 10% again as Qualcomm and MediaTek target IPC and IoT gaps

Intel's PC CPU prices have continued to rise since the end of 2025, and supply chain sources said the company is expected to raise them by another 10%. Its low-margin small-core line is likely heading toward end-of-life (EOL) as CEO Lip-Bu Tan reshapes the business to cut low-margin products and lift overall profitability.

Industry watchers also expect Qualcomm and MediaTek, both in the Arm camp, to seize openings in industrial PC (IPC) and Internet of Things (IoT) chips.
Supply chain sources said Intel has repeatedly raised PC CPU prices since late 2025, including an increase of about 10% in the first quarter of 2026 and another hike in July for some consumer and server CPUs, with increases ranging from several dozen dollars to more than US$1,000. The sources added that the moves reflect rising supply chain costs and strong demand for certain products.
A shrinking market, a rising price tag
Vendors said global PC shipments are expected to reach about 260 million units in 2026 before edging down to around 250 million in 2027. The decline is not due to a sudden collapse in demand, but to sharply higher prices for memory, PCB and other components, which are beginning to weigh on the cost of end products.
The sources further noted that Intel has already raised PC CPU prices several times over the past year and is tentatively set to raise them another 10% in early October. Even as the PC market is expected to contract slightly in 2027, Intel is still lifting CPU prices, underscoring that improving gross margin has become its top priority and that the old strategy of cutting prices to win share is gone.
If Intel trims low-margin small core products, the impact would not necessarily fall on mainstream PCs, but on long-life markets such as IPC, IoT and embedded systems.
An opening for Arm
Supply chain analysis suggests that if Intel makes low gross margin a key threshold for product retention, some offerings will inevitably be forced out. Any demand left behind could give Arm vendors such as MediaTek and Qualcomm a chance to move in, especially in IPC, edge computing and IoT, where Arm SoCs offer high integration and low power consumption.
Foundry capacity adds to the squeeze
Intel's own foundry capacity is currently prioritized for server CPUs, which also command better margins than products manufactured at TSMC on a contract basis. But server CPU supply still falls short of demand, crowding out PC CPU capacity. If Intel wants to accelerate server CPU growth, it may also need to allocate more production to TSMC, deepening its manufacturing dilemma. Attention is now focused on the yield of 18A and the progress of the 14A process.
2027 product cycle keeps demand alive
Industry sources said Intel and AMD will each launch major annual products in March 2027 and between June and July 2027, respectively. The staggered launch timing should help keep the PC market active throughout the year. As new products roll out, brand vendors and distribution channels are expected to build inventory early, lifting demand across the PC and motherboard supply chains.
