Qnity Electronics(Q.US)

Axcelis Technologies plans to break ground on a US$35 million ion implantation equipment manufacturing facility in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, expanding its semiconductor infrastructure for customers worldwide. The project highlights investment in advanced semiconductor capacity as the global economy enters the artificial intelligence era, with production scheduled to begin in 2028.
According to a press release on October 20, the Beverly, Massachusetts-based company said the new facility will expand its existing manufacturing operations in Korea, known as the Axcelis Asia Operations Center. The site will have approximately 200,000 square feet of total gross floor area.
The manufacturing center will include warehousing, cleanrooms, and a training center. Axcelis said its design will create a lean production environment incorporating lessons from the company's nearly 50 years of experience in semiconductor capital equipment. The facility is intended to support fast, flexible responses to customer requirements.
Production is scheduled to start in the second half of 2028. Axcelis said the investment reflects its commitment to strengthening high-volume manufacturing infrastructure and increasing its capacity to serve customers globally.
President and CEO Russell Low said the project represented a new stage of the company's growth in Korea. He linked the investment to the increasing importance of advanced semiconductors to technological progress and economic growth as the global economy enters the artificial intelligence era.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Mi Ae Choo said the investment would strengthen the province's and Pyeongtaek's position as global semiconductor hubs. She also said the project was expected to create high-quality jobs, support the local economy, and enhance the competitiveness of the global semiconductor ecosystem.
The governor added that Gyeonggi Province would continue to promote a business-friendly environment and provide administrative support for Axcelis' long-term growth in Korea.
Apple expands US iPhone supply ties with Perryman and Qnity
Apple announced new and expanded US supplier partnerships on October 20, 2026, including plans to commit up to US$100 million to titanium producer Perryman Company over three years and broaden its camera-technology partnership with Qnity Electronics.
The agreements cover materials and technology for iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro under Apple's American Manufacturing Program. The program forms part of the company's US$600 billion, four-year commitment to US manufacturing and innovation.
Pennsylvania-based Perryman will supply titanium for Apple products, including the grade 5 titanium enclosure of iPhone Duo, which Apple describes as its first foldable iPhone. Perryman melts, forges, and rolls the metal at its Houston, Pennsylvania, site, using at least 80% recycled content for the device.
Delaware-headquartered Qnity will produce advanced films for the variable-aperture system in the iPhone 18 Pro's 48MP Fusion Main camera. Apple said on-device intelligence adjusts the aperture to admit more light in darker conditions and improve detail in brighter settings. Qnity joined the manufacturing program in March 2026.
Chief operating officer Sabih Khan said the partnerships would expand the program and support US jobs.
Apple said nearly 100 components in the two iPhone models come from American companies across more than a dozen states.
Broadcom is modernizing its Fort Collins, Colorado, facility under a US$1.5 billion capital investment announced in July 2026. Apple said the multiyear agreement would produce more than 15 billion US-made chips. TSMC's Arizona factory is producing more than 100 million chips for Apple in 2026.
Corning's Harrodsburg, Kentucky, facility will produce all cover glass for iPhone and Apple Watch sold worldwide by the end of 2026, Apple said.
Amkor's packaging and testing project in Peoria, Arizona, is expected to support more than 3,500 local hires across its first two phases. Apple will be among its first customers.
Apple also highlighted its Advanced Manufacturing Center in Houston, Texas, which opened in August 2026. Engineers at the 20,000-square-foot site train small- and medium-sized businesses in manufacturing and assembly processes.
The center shares a facility with production of Apple's AI servers. The location will also begin manufacturing Mac mini in 2026, according to the release.
