Taiwanese optoelectronics specialist AUO announced organizational adjustments and senior executive appointments on July 1 as it continues to advance its business transformation. The company is aiming for balanced development across its businesses and accelerating its transition into a key solutions provider centered on display technologies for its long-term growth momentum. The company also unveiled its new Institute of Innovation and New Venture.

Focus on three business pillars, establishment of new institute
AUO said it has built strong customer relationships and an industry ecosystem through 30 years of accumulated expertise in display technology research, development, and manufacturing. In recent years, the company has focused on three strategic business pillars — display, mobility solutions, and vertical solutions — to deepen its presence in high-value solutions businesses. Through a strategy of corporatizing these business groups, it aims to drive growth across its various business segments.
At the same time, AUO said it is stepping up efforts to align with the artificial intelligence (AI) era by establishing the Institute of Innovation and New Venture, which will serve as the group's core platform for advancing forward-looking technology research and innovative applications. The institute will support innovation projects aligned with market trends, spanning technology development, industry-academia collaboration, customer development, and supply chain integration, and build a robust commercialization framework to accelerate deployment.
New appointments to help transformation push
As part of the restructuring and transformation push, AUO appointed James Chen as president of the display business, where he will oversee research and development, marketing, manufacturing, and supply chain management across a diverse range of products, including televisions, information displays, mobile devices, and integrated system solutions. He will lead efforts to leverage cross-functional integration to enhance overall operational efficiency and accelerate business growth.
Simon Hsu has been appointed the chairman and president of AUO's subsidiary, AUO Mobility Solutions. Through its three core technologies of display and human-machine interfaces (HMI), automotive computing, and smart vehicle connectivity, together with innovative smart cockpit solutions, the company will build differentiated competitive advantages and expand its overall value proposition within the global automotive industry.
Vertical applications will be spearheaded by AUO subsidiary AUO Display Plus, with Tina Wu, who became chairman and president of the company in May 2025, leading the expansion into smart retail, healthcare, education, and enterprise markets. The company provides integrated hardware and software smart display solutions.
AUO also named Chief Technology Officer Wei-lung Liao as the head of the Institute of Innovation and New Venture. He will be responsible for shaping the institute's roadmap for forward-looking technology development, advancing breakthroughs in microLED, and overseeing dedicated teams focused on co-packaged optics (CPO), optical communications, augmented reality (AR) glasses, and low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication antennas. The institute will integrate foundational research resources across the group's three business pillars to accelerate the commercialization of technological innovation and new products.
The three strategic business pillars and the new institute will report directly to AUO President and Group Chief Operating Officer Frank Ko.
From panel maker to solutions provider
AUO emphasized that the latest restructuring is designed to foster balanced development across its three strategic business pillars while creating complementary synergies. The company hopes to show the market it is no longer just a panel maker, but is steadily transforming into a solutions provider. Through these efforts, it aims to create sustainable and stable profits and make the value of its transformation more visible.
AUO chairman and group CEO Paul Peng said the company's transformation is built on 30 years of industry expertise and is focused on high-value innovation. As the three strategic business pillars and new innovation businesses take shape, the company is further strengthening its operational resilience through the integration of specialized teams and resources.
Peng added that AUO has long been invested in talent development. The latest senior management appointments not only strengthen its succession pipeline but also demonstrate the new value created by the organizational restructuring. He said the changes are intended to lay a solid foundation for the company's long-term sustainable development.
