不做 Elmos Semiconductor SE(ELG.DE)
SK keyfoundry(N/A)

Germany's Elmos Semiconductor has secured wafer capacity from South Korea's SK keyfoundry through 2037, expanding an 18-year manufacturing relationship to 130nm technology as supply conditions tighten across parts of the 8-inch foundry market.
The agreement, signed in Frankfurt am Main and announced September 9, broadens a partnership previously centered on SK keyfoundry's 350nm process. The additional capacity gives Elmos greater supply reliability and planning certainty through 2037.
The long-term commitment comes as both companies adjust to changing conditions in mature-node manufacturing.
Elmos warned in May that partial capacity constraints involving 8-inch wafers and manufacturing-service providers could emerge in the coming months amid strong semiconductor demand tied to the AI boom. The company did not link that warning directly to its new agreement with SK keyfoundry.
SK keyfoundry, meanwhile, approved about KRW90 billion (approx. US$67 million) in capital spending in August to expand its 8-inch foundry capacity, a relatively rare expansion for a company that had largely focused on maintaining its existing production footprint. The companies have not disclosed whether any of the additional capacity will be allocated specifically to Elmos.
The combination gives SK keyfoundry longer-term exposure to automotive semiconductor demand while providing Elmos with manufacturing visibility extending well beyond the current industry cycle.
130nm platform targets zonal vehicle electronics
The expanded partnership gives Elmos access to SK keyfoundry's 130nm platform, which incorporates deep-trench isolation (DTI). The technology improves electrical separation between circuit blocks, supporting highly integrated high-voltage designs while reducing substrate currents.
Elmos' first product using the platform is the E550.01 smart four-channel eFuse controller, which protects and controls multiple electrical current paths in a vehicle.
The device targets zonal vehicle architectures, in which electronic functions and power distribution are organized around different physical areas of a vehicle. The approach can reduce wiring complexity as automakers add more electronic functions and move toward increasingly software-defined electrical architectures.
Initial samples of the E550.01 are already available, with serial production scheduled to begin in 2027. Elmos and SK keyfoundry also plan to jointly launch a space-efficient eFlash memory cell in 2027, enabling memory functions to occupy less chip area.
SK keyfoundry CEO Derek D. Lee said the 130nm platform would provide a foundation for further automotive semiconductor development. Elmos CEO Arne Schneider said the additional wafer capacity would support supply reliability and continued growth through 2037.
The agreement strengthens SK keyfoundry's position in automotive analog and mixed-signal chips, where mature process technologies can remain in production for extended periods because of lengthy automotive qualification requirements and long vehicle product cycles.
Fabless shift raises importance of external capacity
Long-term foundry access has become more important for Elmos since the German chipmaker completed its transition to a fabless business model.
Elmos sold its Dortmund wafer fab to US industrial technology company Littelfuse at the end of 2024 for about EUR93 million (approx. US$108.2 million). The transaction completed Elmos' shift away from owning front-end wafer production, while a separate capacity-sharing arrangement with Littelfuse initially runs through 2029.
The SK keyfoundry agreement therefore extends part of Elmos' external manufacturing visibility substantially further, through 2037, although the company has not disclosed the wafer volumes covered by the agreement or how production will be divided among its foundry partners.
Elmos now describes itself as a fabless specialist in analog mixed-signal ICs, with products used in driver-assistance systems, sensors, motor controls and vehicle lighting.
The company is also expanding as it secures longer-term supply. First-half 2026 sales rose 15.4% year-over-year to EUR314.5 million, while operating EBIT increased 36.1% to EUR75.8 million. Its operating EBIT margin reached 24.1%, up from 20.4% a year earlier.
Elmos maintained its full-year outlook for sales growth of 12%, plus or minus 2pp, and an operating EBIT margin of 23% to 26%.
For SK keyfoundry, the agreement adds a long-duration automotive program alongside its latest 8-inch capacity investment. For fabless Elmos, it secures manufacturing visibility for more than a decade as access to mature-node production becomes increasingly important.
