Every Chinese CPU maker grew in 1H26 but only one grew on processors

Revenue rose at every Chinese chip company examined in the first half of 2026 amid the domestic-substitution push, but the interim filings show three quite different businesses hiding under one label. One has reached real scale and is now funding its expansion from the balance sheet rather than from operations. One is repairing its margins on a genuinely homegrown instruction set at a fraction of the scale. And the cohort's most spectacular profit number is not a processor story at all.

Hygon has the scale, and a cash-flow swing beneath it
Hygon Information Technology is the only processor company in this comparison operating at scale. Revenue rose 66.52% to CNY9.099 billion (US$1.35 billion), and attributable net profit rose 49.69% to CNY1.798 billion, with profit excluding non-recurring items up 49.67% to CNY1.631 billion. Second-quarter net profit of CNY1.111 billion was about 61.7% above the first quarter, so the business accelerated through the period. The company makes both x86-compatible CPUs and deep computing unit (DCU) accelerators, and attributes the growth to rapid AI adoption and rising demand for domestic high-end chips.
Two lines complicate the picture. Pre-tax profit grew 31.96% to CNY2.163 billion, well short of the 49.69% growth in net profit, indicating that tax effects contributed to the stronger bottom-line growth. More significantly, operating cash flow swung to an outflow of CNY428 million from an inflow of CNY2.177 billion a year earlier, which the company attributes to inventory building and higher receivables as the business expands. Research spending stayed heavy in absolute terms but fell as a share of revenue, to 29.15% from 31.31%.
Loongson is repairing margins at a very small scale
Loongson Technology grew revenue just 11.64% to CNY272 million — the slowest in the group — but its loss narrowed 23.96% to CNY224 million, and gross margin rose 9.64 percentage points to 52.08%. In a note on the results, Hua Chuang Securities analysts Mingyuan Wu and Chuwei Zhou attributed the improvement to three drivers: its "three musketeers" products — the 3C6000 server CPU, 3A6000 desktop CPU, and 3B6000M terminal CPU — becoming the revenue mainstay, delivery of high-margin technology licensing, and a new bridge chip that lowered costs. Second-quarter revenue rose 15.52% to CNY137 million.
Loongson's roadmap is the most explicit in the group: two 6600-series product groups, each described as a "five-piece set," for terminal and server applications. Together, they cover next-generation CPUs, a bridge chip, general-purpose graphics processing units (GPGPUs), a printer-control chip, and dedicated baseboard management controller (BMC) and redundant array of independent disks (RAID) controller chips. The company says server and cloud-terminal applications have replaced desktop systems as its growth engine. The gap between that ambition and CNY272 million of half-year revenue is the whole question.
The profit leader is really a memory story
Ingenic posted the cohort's standout numbers: revenue up 75.95% to CNY3.957 billion, and attributable net profit up 489.59% to CNY1.198 billion, with profit excluding non-recurring items up 624.75%. Weighted average return on equity rose 7.51 percentage points to 9.18%.
That surge is not a processor result. The company's filing attributes the surge to its memory business: dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) prices rose sharply amid persistently tight supply, while Flash volumes were lifted by AI server and optical module demand. Its compute-chip line did grow strongly, but partly because it passed on higher prices caused by shortages and rising costs for known-good dies. Ingenic spent CNY389 million on research and development, 9.82% of revenue, the lowest ratio in the group. Any reading that files this profit growth under domestic CPU progress misattributes it.
The two smaller names round out the spread. CCore Technology grew revenue 83.66% to CNY313 million while still losing CNY81.9 million, and its gross margin of 29.19% is the weakest here. Lontium Semiconductor earned CNY82 million on CNY298 million of revenue — though its high-speed interface chips are not processors, and its inclusion in a CPU peer group is questionable.
The common thread is that demand does not appear to be the primary constraint. Across the five chip companies that Chinese media grouped for comparison — including Ingenic, CCore, and Rockchip — revenue growth exceeded 30% at all five. What separates them is whether the growth converts to cash.
