Grab Holdings Limited (NASDAQ: GRAB) announced that Uber Technologies CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has resigned from its board of directors, effective July 6, 2026, as the Singapore-based ride-hailing and delivery company works to close its proposed US$600 million acquisition of foodpanda's Taiwan business from Delivery Hero.
Khosrowshahi had served on Grab's board since 2018, when he joined Grab Holdings Inc. following Uber's sale of its Southeast Asia operations to Grab, and continued on the public board after Grab's listing. According to Grab's separate Chinese-language statement, Khosrowshahi had already been recusing himself from board discussions and decisions related to Taiwan matters prior to his departure.
The board change comes as Grab's foodpanda Taiwan deal draws scrutiny over Uber's competing interests in the market. Uber itself had agreed in May 2024 to acquire foodpanda Taiwan from Delivery Hero for $950 million, but Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission blocked the deal in December 2024 on antitrust grounds, citing concerns that combining Uber Eats and foodpanda would give the merged entity roughly 90% of Taiwan's food delivery market. Uber abandoned the bid in early 2025. Grab then struck its own deal for the same asset in March 2026, at a lower price than Uber had offered.
Grab said Uber's economic interest in Grab remains unchanged by Khosrowshahi's board departure.
"On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Dara for his counsel and contributions over the past eight years. His perspective on building global technology platforms has been invaluable to Grab's growth," said Anthony Tan, Grab's group CEO and co-founder, adding that the company remains "committed to the highest standards of independent governance," anchored in its founder-led structure and Singapore-based decision-making.
Khosrowshahi said in a statement that it had been "a privilege to serve on Grab's Board" and voiced confidence in Tan and the Grab team's continued success.
Grab operates under a dual-class share structure that gives Tan majority voting control, which the company says ensures major strategic decisions are made independently by its Singapore-based management team. Following Khosrowshahi's departure, Grab's board comprises six directors, four of whom are independent.
The foodpanda Taiwan deal is expected to close in the second half of 2026, with user migration to Grab's platform targeted for completion by early 2027.
