Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) said on September 7 that it won a 20-year full-life-cycle contract from Canadian aerospace group Bombardier for the Challenger 3500 business jet. The award was described as AIDC's most important recent breakthrough in civil aviation and was tied to Taiwan's aerospace supply chain.
Under the agreement, AIDC will produce cockpit and forward fuselage structural components for the Challenger 3500, a super-midsize business jet that the company said is the world's best-selling model. The contract moves AIDC deeper into the aircraft program by expanding its role from rear fuselage work to include front-section structures, expanding its participation across the airframe.
According to AIDC, its involvement with the aircraft platform dates to 1999, focusing on rear fuselage structural components. The company said it has delivered more than 1,000 rear fuselages so far, building a long-running relationship with Bombardier that now extends to a more technically demanding part of the aircraft.
AIDC said the forward fuselage is one of the most complex sections of the airframe because it must meet structural, cabin pressure, and airtightness requirements while integrating the cockpit, passenger doors, and multiple system interfaces. The company added that only a limited number of suppliers worldwide can handle the work. It also said it spent two years pursuing the contract and completed a technical review in April 2026 before securing the deal.
The company said it has already begun working with local suppliers, including machining partner Chin-Lung Precision, and plans to bring the contract's machined parts into Taiwan's supply system. AIDC said the move is intended to strengthen domestic aerospace manufacturing capability and improve supply-chain resilience as it pursues deeper customer relationships, larger work packages, and its goal of becoming an international top-tier airframe structural supplier.
