- SEMICON Taiwan
对本次决策的影响:未影响标的选择,直接以NO_INCREMENTAL_FACT回避
方向:无足够同机制、同相位且锚点干净的新增订单先例;本案本身无增量催化,先例无法改变AVOID结论
涨幅量级:未校准幅度
形态:旧闻综述类信号缺乏事件窗口起点,不适合用事件研究定价

US drone tech companies Shield AI and AeroVironment have strengthened ties with Taiwan's defense sector, and they have opened offices in Taiwan in recent years. At Semicon Taiwan 2026, both companies updated their cooperation plans and outlook for the island's drone industry.
Shield AI officially launched its Taipei office in the second half of 2025. Though it has been in Taiwan for less than a year, the share of components sourced from Taiwan's supply chain for Shield AI's products has already risen from less than 1% in 2024 to about 16% in 2026. Maximilian Chen, director of government relations for Asia at Shield AI, said continued collaboration with Taiwan suppliers could lift that share to 25% in the future.
Shield AI co-founder Brandon Tseng previously told media he had visited Taiwan 12 times in the past year, underscoring the company's focus on the Taiwanese market. For Shield AI, Taiwan is not only a market but also an important supply-chain partner.
More than 20 Taiwanese companies are now working with Shield AI. Tseng also said the company will continue expanding investment in Taiwan over the next few years, and its local headcount could rise to 200 within three to five years.
Shield AI develops autonomous software and aircraft, and in recent years has worked closely with Taiwan's National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST), Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC), and Thunder Tiger Group. The company has integrated its core AI pilot system, Hivemind, with unmanned platforms developed by those partners.
Recently, Shield AI completed an autonomous cooperative flight mission with three Mighty Hornet III drones developed by NCSIST, and also deployed the software on Thunder Tiger's SeaShark surface vehicle platform.
For now, Shield AI's operations in Taiwan are still focused mainly on software, while its aircraft hardware business has not yet officially begun. But Taiwan's 2027 defense budget proposal includes NT$36 billion (US$1.14 billion) for the Navy to procure 280 Shield AI V-BAT drones from 2026 through 2029, which have been combat-tested in the Russia-Ukraine war.
AeroVironment has also moved more concretely to establish a presence in Taiwan in 2026. Celine Fahn, the company's managing director in Taiwan, said Taiwan's strategic location in the first island chain makes it more than just a market, and that AeroVironment wants to co-develop and manufacture systems with Taiwan to build a first-island-chain defense ecosystem.
Taiwan's defense ministry reportedly has spent NT$11.5 billion on buying from AeroVironment 685 Switchblade 300 Block loitering munitions and 291 anti-armor drones.
Beyond arms sales, Taiwan is also a manufacturing partner for AeroVironment. Fahn said the company has bought more than US$20 million of key components from Taiwanese suppliers over the past three years, including display panels, sensors, batteries, and related materials.
Fahn said that as the US and Taiwan begin supply-chain alignment and scale up manufacturing, the key is not only increasing component volumes, but also ensuring that different systems can integrate, connect and operate together.
She added that while Taiwanese suppliers are strong in customization, they also face a challenge from fragmented interface specifications. Going forward, Taiwan's supply chain should focus on standardization and interoperability to ensure Taiwan-made systems and parts are compatible with other defense, AI, and systems-integration platforms.
