Pegatron chairman downplays Intel CPU price hike worries

Intel confirmed on July 6 that it will raise suggested prices for consumer and server CPUs, stirring questions about whether the move will push up PC costs and affect consumer demand in the second half of 2026.
Pegatron chairman T.H. Tung addressed the concern in an interview on July 7, saying price increases are showing up across the supply chain and that short-term price adjustments are not a major worry as long as long-term industry demand keeps rising.
Tung spoke to reporters ahead of an appearance at the Resilient Taiwan Summit Forum, where he was invited to speak on energy resilience and Taiwan's opportunities and challenges.
Asked about the recent wave of price increases, Tung said it is not just ICs. Materials, substrates, and passive components have all seen price hikes reported recently, reflecting a strong overall market. Tung said the increases show that some suppliers now have more favorable pricing power, but as long as long-term industry demand keeps climbing, short-term price adjustments do not need to be a major concern.
Demand and supply balance
Tung said demand shapes the balance between supply and demand. If products and technology continue to improve convenience and efficiency in people's work and daily lives, demand will keep expanding and give the market a solid foundation.
When supply falls short, buyers rush to secure orders, and rising prices naturally follow, he said, describing the trend as a normal part of how the industry balances supply and demand.
Tung said the technology industry has always been cyclical. Prices rise when supply gets tight, and companies respond by expanding capacity, including in semiconductor manufacturing, passive components, substrates, and materials that support CPU production.
Expanded capacity does not necessarily mean prices will fall sharply afterward, Tung said. From an industry development standpoint, price changes are not necessarily a bad thing as long as demand and applications grow together.
Tung keeps long-term view on Rubin Ultra
Tung was also asked about a recent report from SemiAnalysis, which said PCB manufacturing bottlenecks could delay mass production of the Kyber rack system used in Nvidia's Rubin Ultra platform, potentially giving rivals AMD and Google an opening.
Tung said he is more focused on the long-term trends behind the industry. Order pull-ins, rush orders, and shortages are common adjustments among companies in the sector, he said, adding that short-term shipment conditions should not be used to judge the bigger picture.
He remains optimistic and believes the overall industry trend has not changed.
