Macronix boosts sustainability spending to NT$780 million

Macronix (MXIC) said in its latest sustainability report for 2025 that greenhouse gas emissions fell 19.8% from 2024 and 32% from the business-as-usual (BAU) baseline, beating its original 20% reduction target. The memory chip maker also said it invested about NT$780 million (approx. US$24.66 million) in environmental, safety, and health initiatives in 2025.
Macronix said cumulative electricity savings from 2018 to 2025 reached about 60.335 million kWh, and the emissions cuts were in line with the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
On resource circularity, the company said reclaimed water volume reached 383.4 million liters in 2025, with an average companywide water reuse rate of 88.47%. Water reuse rates at its 8-inch wafer fab and 12-inch wafer fab reached 89.14% and 88.15%, respectively, and Fab 2 and Fab 5 both received verified water reuse statements.
Macronix said recycled and reused waste totaled 10,877 metric tons in 2025, with a recycling and reuse rate of 98.22%. The average removal rate for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) was 96.84%.
Those efforts also helped the company win first place in Hsinchu City's National Environmental Education Award, earn the Ministry of Environment's air-quality purification zone excellent sponsor service award, and continue to be selected as a top green procurement performer.
Technological innovation remains a key pillar of the company's long-term competitiveness, Macronix said. By the end of 2025, it had obtained 391 patents during the year and accumulated 9,911 granted patents worldwide, while its technical papers continued to be accepted by international semiconductor conferences including IEDM, VLSI, and ISSCC.
In talent development, Macronix said it spent about NT$13.3 million in 2025 on professional sports instructors and related hardware and software maintenance, and all of its sites received healthy workplace certification. Its education foundation has also supported more than 47,000 young people interested in technology and awarded more than NT$200 million in scholarships.
