Largan expects higher September output after sixth land acquisition

As the countdown to Apple's latest iPhone launch enters its final stretch, market attention is zeroing in on Taiwanese optical component suppliers. Leading lens maker Largan Precision reported its latest operating metrics on September 5, disclosing August revenue of NT$5.012 billion (approx. US$158.2 million)—up 3% month-over-month but down 16% year-over-year—marking a four-month high.

September output seen topping August
Driven by traditional peak-season demand, Largan expects demand momentum in September to outperform August. By product breakdown, lenses with resolutions of 20 megapixels and above accounted for 10% to 20% of August revenue, 10-megapixel lenses represented 60% to 70%, 8-megapixel lenses comprised 0% to 10%, and other product categories made up the remaining 20% to 30%.
Largan previously explained that while client demand for new smartphone models traditionally drives revenue growth starting in July, shifts in customer launch schedules in 2026 have altered seasonal patterns compared to prior years.
CPO pilot line nears completion
Industry sources indicate Largan remains well-positioned to benefit from inventory build-ups for the upcoming iPhone 18 series. The flagship line is slated to feature variable-aperture lenses for the first time, a technological upgrade expected to boost second-half operating performance. This aligns with earlier statements by Largan Chairman En-Ping Lin, who noted that third-quarter capacity utilization would reach full load as mass shipments of variable-aperture modules commence.
Notably, Lin previously announced that Largan's first automated pilot line for co-packaged optics (CPO) fiber arrays (FA) is scheduled for completion and unveiling in September. Potential major clients will be invited for on-site qualification. If validation proceeds smoothly, transitioning from pilot builds to low-volume production is expected to take six months to a year.
Land-buying spree continues
Largan continues its aggressive real estate expansion. Following a NT$651 million (US$20.6 million) acquisition of land and facilities in Taichung's Nantun District on August 28, the company announced a second purchase on September 4, allocating NT$606.8 million (US$19.2 million) for land and buildings in Taichung's Beitun District.
Since late June, Largan has executed six real estate transactions, committing over NT$6.9 billion (US$217.8 million) in cumulative capital expenditure. This rapid accumulation of manufacturing land has fueled industry speculation regarding whether the new footprint is dedicated to expanding core mobile lens lines or housing new technology ventures.
