LG Display wins Sharp OLED TV supply deal for 2026 turnaround

LG Display has reportedly become Sharp's sole OLED TV panel supplier in 2026, a shift that could help lift the South Korean maker's large-size OLED business into profit for the first time this year. According to The Korea Economic Daily , the deal comes as Sharp expands OLED use across its premium television lineup and deepens its reliance on LG Display.
Sharp had previously sourced OLED panels from both LG Display and Samsung Display, but it has now consolidated its supply chain with LG Display alone, the report said. The Japanese TV maker is also broadening OLED adoption in 2026 beyond its earlier focus on 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch sets to include 42-inch and 48-inch models.
The exclusive role in Sharp's TV business highlights LG Display's position in Japan, where technical standards are especially demanding. The company already supplies about 80% of the world's OLED TV panels, but its large-size OLED business has long been a weak spot and remained loss-making for four straight years from 2022 through 2025.
LG Display's large-size OLED division has also been supported by a shift toward higher-margin premium products and by stronger demand in the gaming monitor category. The company has allocated 20% of its total large-size OLED output in 2026 to gaming products, about twice the 2025 level. At the same time, global TV makers are restructuring around premium OLED models to offset rising component costs, which is supporting the segment's recovery.
Shipments of LG Display's large-size OLED panels rose nearly 8% year-over-year in 2025 to the mid-6-million-unit range and are expected to increase about 10% in 2026 to just over 7 million units. Market watchers expect the business to turn profitable in 2026 as output rises and margins improve.
