[02:30] About the ongoing operations of that, some estimates have at as high as five to7 trillion, so it's only increased since.
[02:30] Then the question is, are we going to be able back to Tim's question of getting the sufficient capital in to be able to in?
[02:30] And manage the risk associated with it so we're very bullish that that's going to be an opportunity, a tailwind for our growth as we.
[02:30] forwardAnd we have been making the investments on the capabilities using our data because we are you know.
[02:30] We they the largest players in the industry to give the insights to these asset managers, all right, maybe a silly question, but I'm thinking somebody at home might be listening or watching.
[02:30] AndWhen we talk about enough insurance capacity for AI data center demand, what exactly are we talking about?
[02:30] apacityWell, if you have a I mean, think about your home, you know, a million just protecting the data center.
[02:31] Is that what it is well, it's protecting the data center, the build of it is protecting the operations of it?
[02:31] Weather comes in, cyber has an impact on it, the general liability. So it's we actually have something that we call the data center life cycle.
[02:31] Program not just to build the physical facilities itself, but the ongoing operations and all the risk that it would face.
[02:31] You measure risk here with data centers, our CEO likes to say you measure it in millions per minute in terms of operations.
[02:31] Imagine the risk associated with that and you can ensure that and will help match that risk with the right capital you know we're actually seeing.
[02:31] A headline that's related to this crossing the Bloomberg terminal right now, Deepsek is developing a massive artificial intelligence data center.
[02:31] In Inter Mongolia, according to people familiar with the matter, tad one gigawatt worth of compute, the company aims to build its own facility.
[02:31] While leasing additional capacity from other companies, it's pushing to bring at least part of its data center's capacity online by the end of next year.
[02:32] Or early 2028, Ed, we're speaking with Edund Reef, CFO of Aon, we're talking data centers, we're talking insurance in the insurance market.
[02:32] For data centers, what do you think when you see a headline like this, deepse developing this massive AI data center in Inter Mongolia?
[02:32] As you were reading it, there were three things that were going across my mind, one is the construction, two is the energy associated with it.
[02:32] Another area that is high growth for us that you'll need to support this data center and the third thing is the engineering.
[02:32] Expertise that we have in understanding not building that in a concentrated location, but dispersing the risk in giving.
[02:32] Insight on that so that is a company that could could definitely benefit from the insights that we provide from the.
[02:32] HereI they pursue what is going to be a massive investment and ensure that they get the returns that they want on it Well, me just there.
[02:33] Working with deepsek, are you working with Amazon, meta, Microsoft, do you smile for those who are listening on radio?
[02:33] That we are, you know, we given what we have, we we have strong relationships across the hyperscalers, I of course, can't talk about any specific.
[02:33] companyany here, but increasingly the expertise and the engineering advice, I think I mentioned on this program.
[02:33] That even before the large data center boom here, we had advised on over 30% of the data center builds in the U.
[02:33] which is much larger than any other country, you have to go to China and Germany before you start to see the next and we have high market share there as well.
[02:33] So imagine all the engineering expertise that we have understanding where to put the sites, how to build them, how to ensure them.
[02:33] themselves and so with that expertise, I think it drives more demand for us and we are in fact working with many of the large hyperscalers.
[02:33] Tk about on the show just real quickly any signs that this stuff is slowing down because this is the big question or one of the big questions any.
[02:34] That you're like, oh, this know insurance capacity for AI data center, it's going to slow down any signs of that.
[02:34] Carol, the last five quarters I got on our earnings call and said that we had double digit growth in construction.
[02:34] Which is where this shows up, including this quarter here. Now, that is a, you know, it's not where we drive.
[02:34] Growth broad based through many different product lines. so we're not overweighted to this, but it has been a strong contributor for us and we see.
[02:34] It to be a tailwind as we move forward here we just want more time he'll come back come back soon thank you.
[02:34] Thank so much, always appreciate it Yeah be well, Edmund Reese, executiveive Vi President, CFO of Aon joining us right here.
[02:34] New York City just to repeat that redhead that just crossed the Bloomberg terminal, deep seek developing a massive AI data center in inner Mongolia ad people.
[02:35] Similarar with the matter, it's going add one gigawatt worth of compute It's a lot right That's a lot Do you like subs I know you like subs.
[02:35] 🎼Who doesn't like shares of companies that make ups I we' see how the markets reacting like this next guest Jerseyey Mike CEO.
[02:35] Joins us next.
[02:36] 🎼In case you missed it on the opening trade.😊
[02:36] 🎼Of technology has not been more leisure, right, We all have dishwashers at home, but we don't spend less time in the kitchen. So my thesis is that there's.
[02:36] 🎼Agreggate job opportunity rampM does enterprise payments, expenses, revealve looks at labor market data.
[02:36] 🎼Actually find companies that spend more on AI are hiring more so that the data shows about 6 to 12 month lag, but 10% more workers an.
[02:36] 🎼not a in the labor market, but then maybe not lower employment Abute, I think there will be shifts right and we can't get away.
[02:36] From that but.
[02:36] absolutely views on this I mean Reveello's analysis said they were hiring more young people.😊
[02:37] 🎼10% overall, 12% more young people don't miss the opening trade live every weekday.
[02:37] Bringing you up to the minute.
[02:37] 🎼
[02:37] 🎼
[02:37] Do.
[02:37] mindd being called an ideological lunatic or a bunch of left wing nut jobs you know, i've been called worse things than that.
[02:37] You think she on the place?
[02:38] I think is so incredibly valuable, we're coming back, have that kind of detective story feel to it, you know.
[02:38] When you're hot on the trail of something, you know that it's very exciting What magazines were you reading as a kid I don't think I was reading magazines until I was.
[02:38] You are on the cover of all of these Oh and there's many, many more, but weve still enough time.
[02:38] I don't think anybody should trust any company or entity completely with any of this It very intelligence.
[02:38] This forest that is far bigger than we are I want to build better businesses around these brands.
[02:38] The shock will never wear off So you're brother and sister running one of the most powerful companies in the world when you argue who wins?
[02:38] No one the way I could see AI being banned or blocked is if something really went.
[02:39] if something really went wrong, then maybe it deserve to be so is it paradise ahead or.
[02:39] Middle.
[02:39] When news breaks in comes the car into Downing street Bloberg has you covered and Burnham arrive.
[02:39] For all the context and clarity you need a broad vision here from new prime minister here at first on Bloomberg.
[02:39] In case you missed it on Bberg surveillance which journalists we've got to ask, can this really continue at this rate?
[02:39] Seeing our data as a consumer sospending to consumer spending in America, that means economy is okay, and that probably means the rest of the markets and the construct in.
[02:39] What are the potential thresholds they could potentially sty me some of the pipeline people are borrowing because they see opportunity equipment.
[02:39] 🎼What hiring what's building a plant, whether it's inventory build don surveillance live every week the multi.
[02:40] 🎼In dollar industry will' show you what's happening in EFs like no one else. EF IQ Mondays on bloomloberg.
[02:40] .
[02:40] It' 40 on Wall Street we do check markets all day long here at bloomberg, we begin with a developing story as we have been reporting deep seek planning.
[02:40] A massive AI data center in inner Mongolia, that's according to people familiar with the matter, it'll add one gigawatt.
[02:40] 🎼We're seeing buyers coming to the market, specifically for semiconductor names, the socks the Philadelphia Stock Exchange.
[02:40] semiconductorduct index surging now by 7. half% tech getting a big lift the Nasdaq 100 index up 3..
[02:40] %Nsdaq composite up 2.6% S&P keeping it all in context up one and a5% the downw meanwhile.
[02:41] 🎼U572 up by 1.1% a day after the Fed decision and Kevin wassh's news conference the 10 year4.
[02:41] %The two year, 4.22%, the3 year,5.21% gold up almost 1%.
[02:41] 4105 the ounce a retreat for crude, West Texas Intermedia town 1%, 8364 barrel, Brent 8920.
[02:41] A drop there of 1.6% recapping stocks higher, semiconductor surge the stock up 7. a5%.
[02:41] S&P up1 and a half% Carol and Tim, that is a bloomomberg business flash All right, it is indeed, all right, Charlie, thank you so much, Charlie's been all over this.
[02:41] We all have here at Bloomberg another day, another IPO, Jersey Mike's, subs making its public debut, company pricing 43.5 million.
[02:41] Share IPO $23 a share, middle of the range, the offering attracting institutional investor demand far more than 10.
[02:41] Time the available shares that's according to people familiar so people were interested people were interested and they are interested let's head downtown to the New York stock exchange.
[02:42] Jersey Mikekes CEOo char morson right now with a bloomberg open interest co hosts d.
[02:42] miike ceo charlie morson cha thanks for doing congratulations on listening today thank you it's a great day for jers mike I have to say I don't envy ce.
[02:42] That has to list in this crazy market we're living right now has been quite volatile, especially for a lot of your peers, I mean sweet green down 4% shake shack down 20.
[02:42] 4% year to date wing stop also which you once led down 44% so why was amid all of that, why was now the right time to IP great.
[02:42] Time to IPO jersey mike this is a brand that's been built over many, many years we have a rich history of over 70 years the last 20 years alone the only.
[02:42] the conite 20 consecutive years of positive same store sales growth, we've been able to navigate the choppy waters over many, many, many times through our site.
[02:42] Even this year year to date, same store sales continue to grow, we've seen sequential improvement from quarter one to quarter2.
[02:43] 2.3% same store sales growth, most of that driven by traffic. So it's a great time to bring this brand to the market. and we can deal with some of.
[02:43] Challenges that are in there. But really, it's for the long term. So the fundamentals look good heading into this. but was there ever a banker that was thinking hey, Charlie maybe.
[02:43] Now is not the time maybe we need a way for calm waters not at all they full steam yeah, this is a brand that's really well built for the public market What about the pricing?
[02:43] s have fallen initially down 8.7% they've come back of course now down only about 4% what do you think of the pricing was the pricing off perhaps and that's why?
[02:43] We're falling today maybe valuations a little bit too pricely rich to richly priced rather, no I don't think it has anything to do with the price and I think the market's been a little choppy over.
[02:43] last few days trying to find its place again, we're not looking at today's price, we're not worried about this, we're worried about the long term and continuing to do what we,
[02:43] Do well, which is grow restaurants, grow our same store sales growth, continue to deliver great value for our shareholders, and we know they're going to win over the long term talk about the long.
[02:43] Because now with IPO proceeds in hand, what do you want to do with them, what are the opportunities for growth that you're going to be pursuing Well, mean a brand that.
[02:44] I an asset light model. So we're 99% franchise. We generate a lot of cash. We carry some debt. We're using the primary proceeds just to pay.
[02:44] downown our debt a little bit so we get down below four and a half times our EBITDA and that's okay Over time, we really will use our cash to return that cap.
[02:44] back to shareholders, which is very much the common practice in a business like ours, and that'll be the continued pace over time.
[02:44] I know one of the growth strategies that you're pursuing is international expansion, you have big plans for the UK specifically I the market.
[02:44] There for a while for about six years, they do eat subways so they know sandwiches, quality might vary there, but they love like a tsco's meal deal where.
[02:44] know a sandwich and a bag of crisps, as they would call it for four pounds, how do you convince them and how are you certain that a British audience?
[02:44] Would like a jerseymics but we know people all over the world enjoy sandwiches and sub sandwiches, certainly the market's been well established what they don.
[02:45] No is the authenticity of how to really deliver a deli style sandwich the right way, the way we do it here in Jersey Mikes that's been part of who we are for the last 50.
[02:45] It's exactly what we're going to bring to the UK, we're going to bring the brand in its full force to the UK and look, we have a hot sub option.
[02:45] So our cheese steaks, our hot subs, other products will be anchored on the menu and we're going to do it in a high quality way want that.
[02:45] We need to change authenticity anything I mean, one little thing maybe we might bring salted beef to the protein mix and lineup, we know that's a big fan.
[02:45] avor over in the UK and so you might see that change, but otherwise it's going to be authentically what we've been all about at Jersey I love.
[02:45] They know subs out there, but like maybe not the real delhi style Charlie elsewhere here in the US. there has been this real concern about.
[02:45] The outbreak of Sillasphora and the concern about iceberg lettuce, I know a lot of the majority of jers Mike subs use iceberg.
[02:45] Is your supply chain affected at all we are not we're not affected at all, in fact, we do buy whole head iceberg lettuce, but we buy it from.
[02:46] Primarily Salinas, California this time of year, none from Mexico, we actually take very good care of that product, we bring it in in a whole head fashion, we peel the outer.
[02:46] wash it carefully and actually shredd it for our customers right there. and so we don't see any risk associated that hasn't impacted our business.
[02:46] hasnn't impacted your supply chain, chipotle said the same thing, we sourced it somewhere else, but yesterday they pointed out it has impacted sales because the psychological concerns.
[02:46] Are consumers pushing back or maybe at least not asking for lettuce on their sandwiches Well every one of our sandwiches can be customized because we make it to order right in front of you.
[02:46] So if a customer wants to opt out of the lettuce that's fine with us, we'll accommodate that and not really I mean, we've seen, I mean, we've been eating them for.
[02:46] Two weeks on the road we've been enjoying them, I think customers understand that the supply chain moves very quickly, the product's probably out of the supply chain and everything's fine.
[02:46] The credit card and debit card data that the bloomberg team tracks does show a little bit of slowing in july for jers mi certainly still growing but a slowdown.
[02:47] In that growth, what accounts for that then if it's not the lettuce of it all Well, I think there's a lot going on in the marketplace right now, I wouldn't look to any one or two weeks.
[02:47] Indicative, lots of things kind of ebb and flow and too often you can get too much data that'll point to two different things, but right now we haven't seen much.
[02:47] Summer sales have been strong maybe besides a little bit of July don't we haven't talked about anything about this particular quarter at this point we certainly.
[02:47] Perance in the first quarter, sequentially improving in the second quarter. We exited the second quarter on a strong note as well. And so we're going to continue to play our.
[02:47] And execute a game plan that is going to drive long term sustainable same store sales growth. So I hate to do this to you. and I hope you don't check your social media mentions.
[02:47] You just look up jers mics there is just a wide swath of people who say oh since you know, the blackstone pe overlords came in they've changed the same.
[02:47] They have shrunken size people love to complain that like pe comes and ruins their favorite sandwiches?
[02:47] atively have the sandwiches changed at all quality or otherwise since you came into the health not at all, that's just hype in social media they like to pick on people.
[02:48] That reason we haven't done nothing, I mean I've been involved almost as long as Blackstone has, we haven't changed the thing why would we this brand has grown 20 consecutive years.
[02:48] Positive same store sales growth. You don't need to change the menu. We enjoy one of the lowest food costs in the industry. Our franchisees have some of the highest cash on cash returns.
[02:48] in the industry, they want to grow and build more stores and they're going to do that and so no need to change anything, we love this brand, we love the way we deliver,
[02:48] The product and we're going to continue to do it that way for a long time to come on the cost because generally this market, if you track the macro data, things like dairy.
[02:48] The prices have been rising how have you been accounting for that how do you keep your margins we have a very diverse lineup in.
[02:48] M in terms of the proteins that we offer, so beef, chicken, pork, different products all within our menu, and we're able to balance that over time.
[02:48] One is high like beef prices today. we focus on other parts of our business, and we've been able to maintain that over time. We also have a very scaled supply chain over.
[02:49] 3000 restaurants strong, we buy in very high volumes and are able to hand that back to our franchisees in the form of a very low food cost around27.
[02:49] And sales which is industry leading how about prices are you able to use that as a lever to charge more prices for higher prices for your sandwiches.
[02:49] Over time, we do take price, our long term algorithm is low single digit same store sales growth for this business that will be equally balanced between price.
[02:49] And transaction growth, we err towards transaction growth, that's really how you grow the health of the business over time we've taken some price as we've seen commodity inflation.
[02:49] Not nearly as much as some other brands, and that quite frankly is what's been fueling our growth this year and years prior compared to the rest of the continent.
[02:49] Charlie, that's all we have time for thank you so much and congratulations again you Carol ti that is Charlie morson, the CEO of jers Mikes on their.
[02:49] All right good stuff Danny, thank you so much, that of course is d beger, she is Bloomberg Open interest cohost joining us there with the CEO of jers Mikes.
[02:49] Charlie Morrison, by the way, investors taken a bite out of shares of Jersey Mike, but I'm in good way, stock is down below its IPO price of 23.
[02:50] Dollars a share right now trading at 2185 a share so it's down about 5% all right next on bloomberg business Week daily.
[02:50] that's on the move today as a result of earning Starbucks, we hear from the CEO br nichel next.
[02:51] Are you a different president from your father I have to be it's a different time.
[02:51] Fundamental lessons that I still hold close to my heart. But in terms of the practical things that you do.
[02:51] Very few of those things apply any longer How Oh she's in her 9s.
[02:51] she's 95 years old, she didn't get the memo, she doesn't believe she's 95 years old and she's still very active.
[02:51] We still get calls from her and she says, you need to do this, you need to do that, and she doesn't let her.
[02:52] she try to advise you even as president of the Philippines I always learned something new.
[02:52] My mom, in my family, she's the real politician and she's a natural my father was intellect.
[02:52] He was a statesman and we always said that he lived in his head, you know, he was very, very, very deep thinker.
[02:52] 🎼That's what I learned. My mother, on the other hand, she has this uncanny ability to connect with any kind of.
[02:52] Any a person she runs into in the street, King's presidents, anyone, her childhood friend, she doesn't know how to.
[02:52] She's very botherd conflict.
[02:52] At a time when policy in Washington is driving Wall Street, we draw a distinction between the rhetoric and the action.
[02:53] Bringing you market moving guests and original reporting, this is Bloomberg surveillance.
[02:53] Bringing you up to the minute geopolitical news whenever and wherever it happens, I'm Tyler Kendall in Geneva, Switzerland and this.
[02:53] 🎼Iloberg this is Bloomberg business week daily with Carol Masser and Tim.
[02:53] On bloomberg radio and television all right, yes indeed getting close to the last hour of trade on this thurday we've also gotaz.
[02:53] Apple earnings out after the closing bell we're going to be keeping an eye on that right now we're keeping an eye on shares of Starbucks they have been.
[02:53] Up as much as 4% right now again of about 3% in today's session, this following a better than expected earnings report yesterday.
[02:53] LateE after the close, Bloombergs remained Boston co host of the close spoke with Starbucks CEO o'brien nichll earlier this morning.
[02:53] Brian about the company's initiative to uplift more than 1000 of its stores by the end of the year really smart about what we.
[02:54] we can do these things for roughly 150000. We don't close the store at.
[02:54] Continue to perform and then the experience that our partners have because now they've got a new really great looking coffee house.
[02:54] What our customers have results in frankly more transactions, so it's been a great program we'll continue to push the program forward.
[02:54] 2027 because we know when we create a great coffee house and we have that great partner slash barista a customer experience.
[02:54] We're rewarded with more business and you know it's not a big investment, but it's a meaningful investment and then it gets us great great resource.
[02:54] Is there any way you can share with me what the difference in comp sales is for a revamped store relative to the stores that haven't been uplifted?
[02:54] You know, we haven't shared that publicly, but what I can tell you is we see a move in a positive direction as it relates to transactions and because of what we're seeing.
[02:55] We are accelerating the program I think the last time we talked with regards to transactions, you talked a lot about improving the in storeOR experience by also.
[02:55] Improving the speed of which those orders get out the door, whether it's in the cafe or in the drive through i know there was some color on the conference call about.
[02:55] Some of the time that you shaved off of that we're talking seconds here, but it seems like those seconds matter to you how much progress have you made.
[02:55] This is one where I'm really excited because we set out right from the go that we wanted to improve the speed that our.
[02:55] experience and then do it consistently and kind of behind that is really this drive towards more throughput and we've seen just that so we've got better through.
[02:55] put in the mornings, we also have better throughput in the afternoons and frankly, as a result all day long, our transactions are up throughout the day and when you kind of pull that,
[02:55] Yes, customers are loving the experience, but our partners are doing a great job of being staffed as a team, deployed correctly and then consistent.
[02:55] executing the green apron service model, which then results in better speed at the drive through, better speed in the cafe more on time.
[02:56] Mobile order pickup and frankly, pretty good speed in the delivery channel as well, so it is having the effect that we' would want were in totality.
[02:56] The Starbucks business now I think, is providing people the great experience that they want at the speed that people need based on the occasion where they're visiting us.
[02:56] Though Starbucks CEO Brian Nichel earlier today with Romayine Boston, you can check the entire interview out on the Bloomberg terminal and of course.

[02:58] AI spend right there was a lot of and their strategy being behind and so on and so forth share price this year I know what is it doing?
[02:58] U around 30% exactly5 trillion and so now it's kind of like, all right, all of you else, go ahead, go ahead, spend as much money do year.
[02:58] But we know that the analysis in the trade has gotten much pickier in terms of return on investment.
[02:58] And those money, you know, the money spent on AI, you know, the Capex spend versus what is that doing to boost revenues at some of these MagsF?
[02:58] companies, some of these hyperscales from Microsoft turned out to be pretty good. and that's why you saw that stock rallying for meta platforms, people are still quite enough kind of.😊
[02:58] Like we what is the strategy and how does that relate to the core business Yeah, that company reporting earnings Apple after the bell today shares up more.
[02:58] 22% so far this year, 23% market cap $4.9 trillion, it hit $5 trillion early.
[02:59] This week yeah, it's a nice club to be a part of, hey also come in your way, eight bosses share their biggest money regrets in their careers, did you say something had to do with?
[02:59] ushroomYeah, that wasn't a money that's one that's how you psyched yourself up that's how one CEO psys himself up for big moments with mushrooms Anyway I think they're the legal.
[02:59] I think I so Kate Crraer is going to be along with that.
