[09:01] As it seeks to stay competitive with Silicon Valley.
[09:01] All right, try wrap my head on all the things that we have to talk about here grabbing my desk.
[09:01] We're still pointing to this new breaking news in our iB chat as to be okay, so we have to talk about again, and obviously it looks like they may.
[09:01] I've intervened just hours before this boj decision, so certainly that ramps up the speculation of whether this meeting is going to be live or not.
[09:01] And then you got to talk about this sort of recovery that we're seeing across Korea as well and also when it comes to China I mean we just talked about this during the break right?
[09:02] Emerged that this intervention theme has a little bit emerged not just in Japan,, not just in ethics markets, in Japan, Rore just reporting that.
[09:02] Korea sold dollars yesterday, so you had the one strengthening there, you had this announcement coming through out of the government in Korea that they're partnering with a sovereign world.
[09:02] Fund maybe to allow some investments to go into the domestic stock market, maybe some sort of intervention we don't know that there's no direct correlation.
[09:02] Iing's interesting and even with China, right, I mean after that poo burau meeting, which largely was seen as a bit of a disappointment in terms that we didn't get any signs of meaningful stimulus.
[09:02] You are seeing signs of perhaps perhaps national team stepping into these markets the turnover in some ETFs linked to some parts.
[09:02] Their basket did see a surge in turnover specifically, and we'll get to the names in a moment here, specifically the names attract the star 50 and the Chinese.
[09:02] Index,So yes, it is the name of the game, whether or not it happened or not prices are reacting as if they were in the market.
[09:02] Today, A50 futures, I don't normally see that contract go up by that amount, so that is something to talk about today, age is not up by about.
[09:03] 4% dollar yen coming up on your screen a five day look and that dip right now. And we were just alluding to this right now. some breaking news.
[09:03] This is out of the Wall Street Journal that Tesla is considering, okay, let me get the.
[09:03] Lalaying the sale of its China business to pave the way for a potential Space X merger., Are you seeing anything else.
[09:03] Okay, I'm just reading a little bit more on the journal reports, so it says that Musk in recent years did instruct Teesla executives to organize.
[09:03] company a between its and China business and he wanted to ensure that in the event of geopolitical stfe between the two countries.
[09:03] At least the U half of Tesla would survive, so you got to wonder, I mean, he seems like you had to choose between the two.
[09:03] In some ways, but yeah, given what's been happening in the domestic industry there and really the EV slowdown, maybe that's why they're focusing a little bit more.
[09:04] Back home as we speak, our producers are probably scrambling to come up with that list. We're looking at Evs and a lot of the car makers on the back of.
[09:04] if you guys are listening, okay, wait for the call to drop in if not already.
[09:04] Okay, so this is one breaking news story we'll get to a bit more details on in a moment, the other of course, the backdrop of this is a market that is surging quite substantially.
[09:04] As we speak, Do Yen, we talked about this on your screen, so we at one point we did take out the 160 handle we're calling.
[09:04] Above that, as we speak, yen Cross is coming up on your screens, it's not just the yen Reuters reporting that Korea sold dollars in the markets yes.
[09:04] On Thursday, CNH and the cross there against the Japanese currency also fell the most since 202.
[09:04] Okay, if you're a bull, open your eyes and have a look at this T index coming online, cost speed is up, and it's very weird for me to say this Japan is up five.
[09:04] It's underperforming Korea by 10 points. There we go on your screens. Nasdaq features up one and A50 futures coming up on your screen.
[09:05] Last we checked up by about 2%, so we are all systems go, the tailwinds are being felt, the bullets are out as we count.
[09:05] the open up trade today All right, let's talk about one thing at a time right we' we'll talk about this equity rally in just a bit. Let's talk a bit more about the yen.
[09:05] Chief asia ethicx and race correspondent ruth carson joins us from singapore and what happened here, it looks like they did intervene again.
[09:05] Forrs position on the yen into this Bj meeting now it was definitely intervention.
[09:05] Stay for Asia currencies and yen, absolutely do yen in focus, so what are traders doing just hours?😊
[09:05] From the BOJ, I think the trading action speaks for itself now remember there was a more than two year rally in.😊
[09:05] So the size of the move for Dolly Yen yesterday and how much it dropped, but to think about it were sharp.😊
[09:06] Of 158 yesterday when Japanese authorities were believed to have intervened in markets and here we are above 160.
[09:06] just hours after intervention, how are traders looking at it, perhaps as a hate fake and a chance to buy Dolly yen?😊
[09:06] And in fact, if we look at options to markets, if we look at, you know strategists talking about in all the IB chats, everyone are going.😊
[09:06] One's going, look, you know, intervention is just a speed bump ultimately because rate differentials still mess.😊
[09:06] And a boj is still seen and judged as behind a curve when it comes to raising interest rates.
[09:06] Now, Scott, I mean, the timing is interesting in a sense that we did hear from the US.S. Treasury secretary, of course, who needs to be.
[09:06] On board for any intervention, talking about describing the N as very undervalued, I think he made those comments.
[09:06] In an interview with Fox Business, put those comments in context for us. Yes, so if you on the surface level.
[09:07] If you talk to fund managers, faster money or even strategists on the street, Manny will tell you that yes, they agree.😊
[09:07] agree with beant that the yen looks undervalued, it looks cheap and a lot of funding managers will tell you they're looking for opportunities.
[09:07] But the reality is when you have rate differentials still weighing, when you still have a backdrop where.
[09:07] Weeken is likely the outcome over a stronger one, and inflation being a problem in Japan and the VOJ being behind a curve.😊
[09:07] Investors are still going to judge with their wallets, they're going to put money where you're going to make money and in this case it's yen shorts.
[09:07] Absolutely, it does look cheap, a lot of the markets would agree with the US.. Treasury Secretary's views on this.😊
[09:07] Trading actions tells you a different story Ruth, we got a top of the wand because we're getting some headlines here right now.
[09:08] So Korea's Fx authorities say they are also working with the U, with the Japanese here and to continue to close call.
[09:08] With major countriesWe're not too sure what it's not saying too much, but there has been some reports that they did sell.
[09:08] What are we looking on in terms of the one moving forward from here. Yeah, absolutely, another currency that is in the cross has when.
[09:08] comeses to pressure, particularly in the last year, absolutely, and with a cost you performing the way it has as well as.😊
[09:08] Capital flows in and out when it comes to the AI boom. Look, they took the opportunity from reports that were've seen to actually sell dollars.
[09:08] In the market overnight could we see more, yes, I mean, Korea is definitely one of the more interventionist as well when it comes.😊
[09:08] To prop up the currency when needed you so much our chief correspond.
[09:08] And there that's really playing out across equity markets, Taiwan is opening up 7% MSCIE that's the gauge, of course, or emerging market.
[09:09] It stocks up the most since april, costpi, nike and A50 futures are called higher 2% of the upside Anthonyony sea is here with us to tie.
[09:09] ect story into the equity markets and what's going on in Japan, Anthony, Happ Friday, guys, least So we see the dispersion.
[09:09] Between momentum in Japan and the traditional exporters playing out in a really big way. Momentum is back. Momentum was back in the US.
[09:09] Roaring back here after the Amazon results, after these kind of comments from Korea to support AI demand. So the AI trade is back in a really big way.
[09:09] Especially since we saw some of these kind of struggling funds get stopped out overnight yesterday as well. So Japan, the space in the Cis is very.
[09:09] , you say double digit gains across the board, carrying on from very strong earnings versuss weakness in the likes of Nintendo, Sony, Toyota tradition.
[09:09] Export names. And that's going to be very important to watch in terms of determining how far Japan is allowing its yen to strengthen, because.
[09:10] Do need to keep an eye on those exports because China is coming for those exports. Korea is coming for those exports. And that speaks to why Korea coordinated with.
[09:10] Japan, they also don't want the one to be an unwitting victim of intervention in Japan, like the U strengthen.
[09:10] Watch for that kind of coordination element, but for now the tech trade is ascendant momentum is massive and momentum likes to see this kind of double dig.😊
[09:10] We certainly need that after what was like a 17% drop in kea in just the last three sessions or so, but is it purely just?
[09:10] Buying, you think, or do you think fundamental technical and all that set of Well, they're coming together They're coming together quite nicely. right, So yesterday, you saw the first inkling of.
[09:10] In buying into Korea with the local retail, selling and domestic institutions buying, We seeing a repeat of that dynamic today in massive size.
[09:10] On open, foreigners are continuing to buy the strength early. You can watch it live on the terminal. They're buying quite big size on the open.😊
[09:10] In terms of the breakdown as well, there is no fear in that market. you seeing Samsung, Hyix, LG Es, everything high beta is.😊
[09:11] Is ripping double figures. What remains to be seen is whether Korean retail are closer to the end than the beginning. and on the fundamental side.
[09:11] Amazon was a great result for Korea. They are undeterred by Capex concerns and up ping ahead. Okay, Anthony, thank you, our bullberg market support Anthony C.😊
[09:11] Its just walking through all the moves that you're seeing right and it seems like things are falling into place you take a look at what Chinaa is we can't forget about what's going on Chinaa too of the.
[09:11] form that we've seen right we're cost all the way to of course chin, but we are set for a potential another week of.
[09:11] ments against u equities in china and that's despite what we heard from the pobu as well I think expectations were already quite low for any sort of major.
[09:11] Melisa there was a bit of disappointment on that front there in the equity market, but certainly also looking at signs of national team stepping in and the, but Dave, what else are you watching out for?
[09:11] Yeah, well, you know, the statistic is correct up until, and I would imagine there's a chance that might not hold today, and I'll talk about in a moment.
[09:12] As things stand, I'll talk about this in a moment, we are up five weeks MSCI, China outperforming USS. equities, but with this comeback of momentum.
[09:12] We're seeing today the USSS one more trading session left and that could scuppper that one depending on how things trade in the U.S on Friday, of.
[09:12] It's also to say when you look at China, we're up 2%, we'll get to that in a moment, but yes, the market was largely underwhelmed when we.
[09:12] did get information coming throughout of the po bureau this took place in the afternoon session yesterday as the cash markets were about to shut in fact the opposite.
[09:12] When you look at a 1 year bond yield, which is going to come up on your screens very very shortly, also seeing a big dip going into.
[09:12] Going into the close and currently we're trading at about 171, we came from about 174 173 earlier in a session.
[09:12] Speaking of the some signs that the national team perhaps stepped into the afternoons.
[09:12] Session acrosss some parts of the equity market, because some ETFs linked to that basket that they.
[09:13] Tend to buy when they do step into stabilized markets China's index just shows you of course, a session yesterday, so you had two AFs one is linked to,
[09:13] TheU is linked to the star 50. don't pay attention to the price. it was really turnover that really picked up into the afternoonmen session.
[09:13] Just to end on that, so five straight weeks of odd performance currently it could change or we'll see we'll see what happens with Hong Kong because there are a couple of other things.
[09:13] That have emerged very recently like this journal story on Tesla to.
[09:13] justThe China unit, so we're looking at EVs, for example, there very, very closely, right.
[09:13] I'm hesitant there because we're short of details on that, but that is going to be very consequential in trade today, but in five weeks, last time you saw five weeks,
[09:13] All the way back in early of 2025 all right we'll see how this all plays out, especially in the ev side of things here given the competition.
[09:14] They've been seeing with Chinese automakers and certainly maybe that is one reason why, but is also ahead of that big SpaceX deal when it comes to Teesla coined a journal.
[09:14] As well so certainly a lot to impactpack there we're kind down the opens of trade in shanghai, shenzhen and Hong Kong as we talked about futures at this point in the morning pretty punch.
[09:14] Here right now in chin we're up as much as 2%, this is the china show happyapp Friday.
[09:15] Bringing you up to the minute newss whenever and wherever it happens, I'm Lisa Abraowitz and Rio de Janeneiro and this is Bloomberg.
[09:15] When news breaks in comes the car into Downing street Bberg has you coveredham arriving.
[09:15] All the context and clarity you need a broad vision here from new prime minister here at first on Bloomberg.
[09:15] Every weekday, Bloer puts the spotlight on a different aspect of global finance flows, funds and the forces shaping markets on ETF IQ.
[09:16] The future of moneyney with Bloomberg crypto the players behind major transactions on Bloomberg deals rates, and.
[09:16] 🎼Of on B and personal finance retirement and wealth management on B money a different topic every week.
[09:16] only on Bloer television bringing the latest business.
[09:16] Where and whenever it happens, i'm scarlet food reporting from america's biggest military shipyard, this is bloomberg.
[09:16] All right what a rally that was underway here right now, is it the start of some sort of recovery that we're seeing when it comes to, of course, what has been momentum?
[09:16] And really the 16% gains in the cost certainly does, in some ways erase a lot of the losses that we saw in just the last three sessions.
[09:16] A lot of optimism around there, we talked about the Fx intervention sort of kind of overlay that we're seeing across Asia Fx the Yang.
[09:17] The wan here this morning and that's why you are seeing maybe perhaps a bit of stabilization as we enter into that boj meeting in just a few hours.
[09:17] So we also need to impact all the U. earnings right we saw what have with Amazonon, which gained you saw Apple, which actually went the opposite direction.
[09:17] China sales and the disappointment there seemed to have led to a bit of this concern on math part, but let's unpack everything with marrabelle loz founder and enterprise.
[09:17] AI lead at lopez research marbelll it's great to have you. i'll start with the hyperscalers like amaz right it seems like you know when it came to,
[09:17] AWS it seemed like everything from there seemed quite robust, you know, are we seeing much more growth come through from these hyperscales again?
[09:17] In the US market, everybody was holding their breath on Microsoft and Amazon's revenue because if that.
[09:17] Didn't come in, there was going to be an extreme validation of the concept of maybe the AI boom was over, that we were spending too much money that we had a whole call on.
[09:18] ity planning, the sell came in better than expected, the discussion about demand going forward became better than expected.
[09:18] Which leads to really the semiconductor industry getting a boom and the whole global economy saying that there's still opportunity for AIC.
[09:18] As move forwardSo Marybel, but part of, I guess, the second part to that question would be how much?
[09:18] Are they monetizing AI question that was answered so far?
[09:18] I think we came in better than expected we've heard the story for several quarters now about we're going to invest, we're going to invest and that we're going to see.
[09:18] On the enterprise buying demand, so when you look at the size of the cloud services that we were going into to still see.
[09:18] 30s, almost 40% growth in a hyperscalealar at this stage of the game was actually very encouraging.
[09:18] That the demand that they had been talking about is actually started to be monetized with people running AI workloads in the cloud.
[09:19] How does this- what's the readath through there, right you mentioned that it could lift the chip sector, the picks and shovels trade and really kind of bring momentum back into.
[09:19] This market, do you think that this is the beginning of some sort of relief rally now, or do you think we still might be dealing?
[09:19] Was some volatility ahead I think we were chasing ghost before, we didn't really know if there was going to be any signs of growth.
[09:19] An opportunity moving forward, I think that the earnings that we've seen thus far this quarter actually were fairly strong across the board for almost every.
[09:19] There were some issues, for example, you mentioned Apple in terms of some of what the disappointment was, I think there's been a discussion about companies like how diverse.
[09:19] Do you have data center, do you have smartphones, do you have physical AI, do you have software and services independent?
[09:19] On the answer to that question, there's more or less enthusiasm around you as a company, but I think what we did see is for the infrastructure for the picks and shovels come.
[09:20] anies that are selling to the hyperscalers that are selling through to the enterprise buyers, doing AI workloads. We finally saw some light in what we.
[09:20] Thought was going to be a fairly significant quarter to just be average and average was definitely not going to be good enough.
[09:20] No, can I ask you about MEra, and I'm a bit hesitant to directly tide the market reaction.
[09:20] To what the company said, because the stock is also done well, so it could be partly related to courses, I think I was checking a statistic today here.
[09:20] The stock is down in 11 straight days, long since it went public back in 2012, did anything go wrong in your view with the meta storyory?
[09:20] So one of the things that investors are really struggling with right now with a meta story is they're investing.
[09:20] A lot of capital, unlike hyperscalers, they're not really going to sell a lot of cloud computing services, So all of that has to be monetized with some form.
[09:20] AI services or advertising services and the big unknown, and this is a very large, significant unknown.
[09:21] Is when we will start to see the impact of the AI model providers, the new AI search providers, companies like perplexity.
[09:21] Companies like Open AI who have made stated opinions about how they want to be the next wave of commerce and helping with that next wave of advertising commerce.
[09:21] Is that going to impact meta and we have trouble handicapping that one right now, so some of the disappointment with meta is.
[09:21] Veryry strong investment and a very uncertain future revenue outlook for them in terms of who's going to be coming into their market and impacting.
[09:21] This week, there was a lot of concerns before these earnings, of course, Marirabel, about circular finance.
[09:21] Once again, what these hyperscalers, what NviDdia and how they're becoming big financial players in this whole AI infrastructure bill.
[09:21] How concerned should we really be now about these big, big deals that are coming through?
[09:22] We are in this state where the revenue for the frontier model providers has not caught up with the spending that they had.
[09:22] Capital markets would not do financing, so vendor financing is actually one of the best options that they have at this point.
[09:22] But it does lead into this if Nvidia says they're selling a lot of chips, but they're really vendor financing the chips to open AI, did they really make any money?
[09:22] So we do have a bit of a circular economy going on at this point in time, but it's not surprising, I think what we're all trying to figure out is.
[09:22] This will be the most disruptive tech boom of our time, and the question is, how fast and how broad is the monetization of that?
[09:22] Because if you think about the companies that we've had in the past, we're looking at a whole different breed of companies being the companies of the future.
[09:22] At open AI is it anthropic, where we continue to see someone like Microsoft who's been around for a significant period of time still be in that category.
[09:22] so these are the questions that people are nowing and what people are trying to figure out when they're investing is who will be.
[09:23] Next the next 25, 30, 50 years and mar just quickly has to emerge.
[09:23] I'll just use Kimmi K3, but the emergence of these Chinese models, does that change that premise you just laid out there?
[09:23] I think there's been a tremendous discussion about how open source models, the global model environment.
[09:23] I meant will impact the commercial revenue opportunity for the traditional foundation model providers, so I think we're in a state.
[09:23] Tremendous innovation, tremendous opportunity for disrupt across the globe, China is coming out to be quite a strong player in AI right now, and I think everybody,
