[04:00] From the world of politics to the world of business, Joe Matthew and Kayleley Lys deliver news insight and analysis live.
[04:00] Two times a day every trading day balance of power at one and five Eastern only on bloomberg.
[04:00] 🎼In every aspect of our lives and that revolution is playing out in real time, from finance to defense tech, AI to end.
[04:00] 🎼tainment from the road to the stars Bomberg is bringing you the stories of companies and people that are pushing tech to new fronts.
[04:00] 🎼And the politics reshaping global tech markets I'm Ed Lodlow live in San Francisco in this.😊
[04:00] It's Bloomberg tech every weekday only on Bloomberg television.
[04:00] Shars of Iumina are up on the week up for roughly about four straight days relative.
[04:00] unchanged on the day, but you see that 0.01 we'll call it in the green here, this on the back of the gene sequencing equipment makers.
[04:01] In the most recent quarter a beat on several of the key metrics and more importantly slight upgrade in its guidance for the year jacob tyson joins us.
[04:01] Now, the CEO over at aumina and jacob let's start off with the guidance going forward, you raise it ever so slightly, but and clearly investors were.
[04:01] What gives confidence that you're going to, first thank you for inviting me here to this show and I'm.
[04:01] With the quarter, we had a strong beat in the quarter. we raised the second half of the year. So I think that's what you see that our investors have been pleased with.
[04:01] Fantastic performance over the last six months where our stock is up almost 50%. but it really speaks too that the strategy.😊
[04:01] Is working the strategy of becoming the infrastructure behind the genomic medicine and really providing sequences.
[04:01] Reagions and of course, also compute and software into many laboratories.
[04:02] world where they can take that and take the biological sample and translate that into deep insights. that goes both for for researchers pharma.
[04:02] But more importantly, also into clinical labs, clinical labs are really adopting sequencing DNA sequencing now.
[04:02] To help really ensure that their patients can get a good profiling of their diseases, oncology is a big one.
[04:02] Seeing a lot of momentum in that space Well somebody who has some personal experience with that, talk to me a little bit more about the clinical side of the business, how much of a growth story that can be but also.
[04:02] efficacyff of the information that is being that is being produced on the spot there yeah, I mean, clinical is now.
[04:02] 65% of our consumers business and is really the growth engine for the company. we are growing in the teen right now, and we think that's.
[04:02] rowWe think there is a lot of opportunity here. And the reason for that is that genomic sequencing, is the DNA is a blueprint of policy.
[04:02] And it's very important for many different specific diseases to understand the genomic profiling, especially in for cancers that is.
[04:03] Of the genome. But today, it's still not a part of standard of care. So bringing it up to standard of care is going to be essential for really helping.
[04:03] Patients to be successful in their fight against the different diseases oncology, we're starting to do that. we doing that for selecting the right.
[04:03] Therapy for people to our customers are doing that in the laboratories, but you can also go into monitoring when you have gone into remission of cancer.
[04:03] You can use a genomic profiling to monitor the season and ensure you can pick up any second level show that the cancer is coming back.
[04:03] This growth opportunity there, and that is the power of aluminumlum and that's where we see a lot of opportunities in the future.
[04:03] about the tools business, how is that going for you guys and is it still affected by the attempted trump admin cutbacks to life sciences?
[04:03] Yeah, so you think about the business that we are delivering and we are providing tools across many different parts.
[04:04] Different segmentsegments and clinical is a big one, but we also are supporting the academic research space. The genomic sequencing is.
[04:04] Use to really helping to advance our understanding on biology, advance our understanding of diseases, but it's not only on the DNA level anymore.
[04:04] Now we are shifting to be also looking at both DNA, but also all the way up on prote and to proteomics.
[04:04] And so yeah, we have been impacted with some of the challengess that's been happening in the funding environment, but I think this.
[04:04] And especially the space that we are in on what we call multiomics is one of the areas that will be invested in in.
[04:04] But right now, it's something that we see as an upside to our numbers. So I think that will really fuel more growth when that comes back to that market.
[04:04] What about the new AI life sciences business bio insightsight, do you think there's going to be more partnerships like that with pharma?
[04:04] Yeah, so if you look at the opportunity here is that genomic sequencing is very, very data intensive in.
[04:05] self, have the genome consists of 3 billion letters. So you have to read that of the biology.
[04:05] That every time, So there's a tremendous amount of data. So we've used AI for a long time to really understand what the.
[04:05] The genome actually looks like, but it's highly complicated to combine the genomic information with proteomics information and so on.
[04:05] You need AI insights to really translate into early signals. So we are starting to sequence and create big data.
[04:05] That provides deep insight that pharma can now use to really have better predictability in that drug discovery. This is the future.
[04:05] We're just getting started, and I'm very convinced that this will change our understanding on biology. It will revolutionize drug discovery.
[04:05] how we think about health going forward and Iumina is going to be a center of that. So I'm very excited about that business. Jacob really appreciate.
[04:06] for us congratulations on the most recent quarter we'll talk again soon jacob tyson illlumina ceo there coming off an up week on the back of.
[04:06] Up earnings report now when we come back, we're going to talk about a big ship coming in the world of combat sports pa's boxing.
[04:06] Maashing up with jo marin's professional MMmaA league, a mashup designed to take on the big heavyweight out.
[04:06] There Dana White's UFC, we're going to catch up with Jake Paul, jo Martin as well as Nikkisa Bader and when we come back after the break right here.
