[14:30] 🎼it happens I'm Haslenda I'mman in Mumbai, this is Lombberg.
[14:30] Welcome back.
[14:30] trade, 30 minutes from the start of cash trading here in Europe, so let's put up the futures picture and see where we are this morning we've had quite a bit of earning.😊
[14:30] News out this morning here in Europe. so we have that to factor in. we are expected to go a little bit higher up by three tenths of 1% on in fact, all of the markets.
[14:30] OnThat there. And that's not too dissimilar from what we are seeing in the US markets as well. E is up around 4 tenths of a percent Nasdaq futures.
[14:30] Up by a quarter of 1% and that's despite the SpaceX Capex and the AD sales outlook, which many have been saying you know raise.
[14:30] Flags around are worrying for those in the AI investment thesis.
[14:30] See what that does to the Nasdaq Yeah and possibly it's because the geopolitics is outweighing those tech concerns if we take a look at the bond space this morning you've got yields lower across.
[14:31] European curve across the continent following the moves that we'd already seen on Treasury yield to the ten0 year Treasury yield downer bases point the German.
[14:31] D2 basis.309 on lower oil prices, so Bent is around $79 a barrel as things.
[14:31] St on hopes of a deal in the Middle East to reopen the of now let's back to the earnings picture sand reporting.
[14:31] Second quarter net sales that met average estimates, the Swiss drug company saying that sales were driven by what it called an outstanding bioim.
[14:31] I'm pleased to welcome now the Sand CEO Richard Se, who joins us now Richard good morning to you.😊
[14:31] ing is the performance this quarter. Tell us more, what's your message to shareholders this quarter.😊
[14:31] First of all good morning, outstanding to me, US biosimilar grew 47 percent, I think that's a real standout overall globally we grew at 22.
[14:32] Pcent in the second quarter and now over 33% of our revenues in the first half of the year came from bysimilar.
[14:32] But three years ago, when I did the first capital market, we had an ambition that about by 20,30, at least our 30% of our revenue would come from by.
[14:32] Clearly we're well ahead of that, so really, really encouraged by our ability to bring and then take leadership positions with the biosimilars that we bring.
[14:32] come to the market so we're very, very proud, really, really pleased Great well how are you thinking about the markets you operate in today then?😊
[14:32] Markets which regions are providing the biggest growth opportunities, where do you see the biggest challenges?
[14:36] Effectively, another euro or another cent.
[14:36] aric so really your ask is very simple.😊
[14:37] Basically a euro per packC on everything we sell it's a very, very modest request now part of the Critical Medics Act requires.
[14:37] Each member state procures at least 30% of all of their medicines from vertically integrated suppliers, so now each state were having the.
[14:37] Conversations, what does that mean, How do we shape tenders, How do we have the right conversations with governments, So I'm encouraged that those conversations are happening, but clearly.
[14:37] I'd like to see more action, more momentum around that, but certainly we're seeing opportunities that emerge so I'm encouraged.
[14:37] I mean we've talked then about the US, the pressure there around tariffs, and Lizzy was asking you about European policy.
[14:37] All of that, How do you decide where to expand manufacturing, Richard, I mean, Europe would like you to manufacture in Europe and the United States would like you to manufacture.
[14:37] In the United States, so how do you navigate those tricky waters but first of all, we navigate it on the basis of the business office.
[14:37] At our heart, where a European company were listed in Switzerland, Europe is our largest region, and that's our main manufacturing footprint.😊
[14:39] I' got to remember that we supply in Europe 80, 90% of all the medicines just because Europe particularly has focused on price.
[14:39] Drug substance, the API, as we call in the industry, active drug pharmaceutical ingredient comes from Asia, predominantly China and India.
[14:39] When you look for alternative sources frequently, there are very few choices now as a company, we're investing heavily particularly in biologics.
[14:39] These are the larger, more complex drugs used in things like cancer, that those will be vertically integrated within Europe and as I said earlier.
[14:39] Things like antiinfects We the only remaining company left in the Western world manufacturing penicillins. And how do you think Richard with.
[14:39] That said, how do you think about the return of?
[14:40] And the position that we have and the leadership, as I said earlier now, we've massive our shareholders so much joining.😊
[14:41] As we is saying no the CEO of sands well energy leaders are warning about the impact of the continued closure as we were just discussing.
[14:41] Of the Str of Ho moves take a listen unfortunately we're still not getting enough product through the Str of Homo, even at the highest ends.
[14:41] They're saying that we're getting only about 7 million barrels of co through the Strait of Hers at this point because of new pipeline capacity.
[14:41] You only need to get that level up to about 11 million barrels a day through the strait because of a lot of that product now flowing through pipelines.
[14:41] Mike Summer is their president and CEO of the American Petroleum Institute speaking to Bloomberg and we'll have more on the energy.😊
[14:41] 🎼And the state of the Iran talks later on in the programme Stayay with us, this has.
[14:43] We actually just expanded the set of customers that.
[14:43] Access to myths that gets about an additional 150 organizations around the world in 15 different countries and really are.
[14:43] 🎼roach to myths has always been, there's a time component to it. so we released it.
[14:43] Initially to cyber defenders, so some nonprofit groups, some governments, some organizations that are critical infrastructure for protection.
[14:43] 🎼Against potential cyber attacks. And just like in any kind of security vulnerability situation, you have to give the defenders.
[14:43] The technology AI models are going to keep advancing if it's not us one day releasing a mythths level model, another AI company will.
[14:43] But it actually matters who you give access to first and how long they have to patch some of the vulnerabilities that MeTOS was capable of.
[14:44] Revealing and so we're taking this this very cautious, very tiered approach, which I know in some ways is frustrating because people really want access to the model.
[14:44] But I think again, as a company that's founded on these principles of being ethical, being responsible, we thought it was important.
[14:44] To give access to the organizations that were capable of really helping us defend against some of these risks and then slowly why.
[14:44] ning that circle to more and more critical infrastructure until eventually we feel it's safe to release it more widely.
[14:44] 🎼morning good morning. This is. We back to the opening trade. itberg money. this is the.
[14:44] 🎼this is Wall Street week. We to balance of power. You're watching Bloomberg deal We to Bberg this weekend. this is Bloberg tele.😊
[14:44] Join me each week on Wall Street Week for stories of capitalism from business, markets, economics, tech and climate.
[14:44] What you need to know, it's what you need to think about.
[14:45] We expect the cadence of AI development to improve dramatically.
[14:45] And then with Groc5, which should be out before the end of this year, we will be incorporated the entire.
[14:45] 🎼Of SpaceX data, basically all the data that SpaceX has ever produced, which is a tremendous amount of.
[14:45] 🎼quarter century will be incorporated into crop training Mu.
[14:45] Speaking on the company's first post IPO earnings call and this was while SpaceX shares fell in after hours trading.😊
[14:45] than expected AI spendingening its debut earnings report that broadly surpassed Wall Street forecast.
[14:45] With Greenberg seniorni strategist Neil Campling, I know Neil that Elon Musk personally commented on your analysis last night.😊
[14:46] I think you are basically saying that investor expectations were too high and he was agreeing, why weren't investors impressed with these results?😊
[14:46] To put really simply, rockets, burn fuel, SpaceX burns cash.😊
[14:46] For every $1 of revenue, not even profit, they're burning $2 of cash. And that's the key problem, I think, for.
[14:46] A company that is acting very much like a startup company, but it's now in public ice because it's been listed, as you mentioned.😊
[14:46] On the broad metrics, in terms of the quarter's results, they actually beat expectations on all three divisions. The problem is, is that the investments require.
[14:46] Significant amounts of cash. And that's a problem, I think because they have grand ambitions. They claim the target.
[14:46] To get to $1 trillion of revenue by 2030, that's going to require a lot of money to even come close to those ambitions.
[14:46] I mean, Elon Musk was really positive wasn't he, so there we are that's a surprise, yes obviously to everybody talking about the cadence of AI development.😊
[14:47] Guiding revenues higher, as you say, pointing to that also very positive on starship, the big rockets, the reusable rockets and what they could do there.
[14:47] about AMD then because there we got the sales outlook underwhelming a little bit. Was that to do with AI, Was it to do with PCs?
[14:47] a big part of that business the driver I think the only issue really is the particularly the biside.
[14:47] We're above where the company were forecasting to. So there's a bit of traveling and arriving in the stop for one thing, I think.
[14:47] And then also if you look at performance year to date, it is the sixth biggest single stock contributor to the S&P return decision.
[14:47] So it's done very well and so the core business is doing okay.😊
[14:49] ro optimism about US Iran and there definitely is euphoria, as you say, stocks are records almost every.😊
[14:49] It's doing well, bonds are rallying, which is playing into the stock story, so I'd say about 50% of US Iran, even though we've been here before and it's precisely,😊
[14:50] Because we've got Deja Vu about the situation of a promise of a deal that's holding some investors back, which means we still probably have even more upside.😊
[14:50] If there is finally a deal which seems viable and sustainable and is actually validated on both sides, what's the other 50%?😊
[14:50] The other 5% really is largely just kind of technical relief that the route in Korean stocks is over that.😊
[14:50] The situational awareness fund is kind of resolved and we've rolled into a new month and we can kind of put July behind us so I think 50%.😊
[14:50] 5% Iran optimismSo then Mark, has the S&P turned a corner, now, it's out of the narrow range, it was stuck in.
[14:50] For several monthss I mean, look S&P 500 never went far from its record.
[14:50] Even in July turmoil, which was very much sector specific. SP500s been doing final year. I mean, I think we remain in.
[14:50] In the inflationary stage of the AI Capex bubble, and we remain in an overall very bullish environment for stocks.
[14:51] Masscent fiscal injections from around the world, both from the private sector and the public sector, were having monetary policy being held inordinarily low.
[14:51] We keep on getting promises of relief in U Iran, which is the one big risk out there, earnings are incredibly strong.
[14:51] Acro environmentviron is still very very positive, as you discussed since about May, I think we're in this more volatile stage of the AI.😊
[14:51] kindind of a bubble and therefore but that still means higher prices, so you know look SB 500 yet, it hasn't gone much further.
[14:51] It's not far off record highs, which is extraordinary gains the last couple of years.😊
[14:51] I still adjusting to what we heard last week from the Fed, do you think, you think it's still working through markets, the lack of guidance that we're getting?
[14:51] And what is that doing do you think to risk assets as well as to the long end of the yield curve?
[14:52] I'm not sure we're still kind of working through it, but I think that the message from that meeting is going to run.🤢
[14:52] Main very relevant and for the long term one is we're going to have more volatility around data points, which is one aspect.😊
[14:52] And because we got some big data points to come this week with jobs in particular, that's going to be interesting and I think the second one is that,😊
[14:52] Because of that kind of slight surprise in how dovish war sounded in the conference relative X.🤢
[14:52] I think that the next data points in particular will either kind of validate that view or make it seem more like a policy mistake of the.
[14:52] Mar very much that's our Bberg Market executive editor Markmore and remember you can get up to date analysis from Mark.😊
[14:52] Can the team by going to MLIV go on your terminal Now let's turn to the stocks to watch this morning Chloe Melly has them for us and Chloe looks.😊
[14:52] No vote indicated on, absolutely Good morning, Lizzie. We could see not a bit of a hit this morning because.
[14:53] Of its weight loss did not to beat expectations. The expectations from investors were really, really high. were.
[14:53] This pill would outperform, but there might be a bit of a disappointment there that could weigh on the shares. There's a lot of swing factors to.
[14:53] When it comes to the outlook as Bloberg intelligence put say if we've flipped the board we've got this question of the Medicare coverage.😊
[14:53] of the U and then also the success potentially of Eli Lily's rival weight loss.
[14:53] A lot of factors to consider that for No. And we could see a bit of weakness at the open. Moving on to Heineken, which came out with a pretty.
[14:53] So this morning,s a performance in Asia and Africa managed to offset the persistent weakness that we are seeing in the American.
[14:53] And European markets, which is something that Heineken has been dealing with for quite a few quarters now, we could see this a pretty solid earn.😊
[14:54] To actually give a bit of a boost to the incoming CEO who's joining in October, we have seen Heineken underperform aBN beev one of its biggest rivals.😊
[14:54] In Europe by quite a large margin, but we could see these earnings this morning to really boost those shares, so we'll be watching up for that as well.😊
[14:54] And finally, Simen's energy is going to be in focus after targeting the top end of its guidance range thanks to very strong demand.😊
[14:54] For grid equipment and gas turbines, of course, a big AI beneficiary, it's really benefited from there. We are seeing the shares of 25%.😊
[14:54] And we could see an even bigger boost on the back of that print this morning Chloe, thanks very much, Chloe Ne with the latest on those talk.😊
[14:54] That could be on the move and Lizzy you were speaking to Za's energy a little bit earlier on, yeah and he was saying it's not all about AI which is really interesting because you got this question about.😊
[14:54] Whether the hyperscalers are putting more too much into infrastructure when efficiency could be coming down the line, and he says.😊
[14:54] Electrification demand goes beyond AI Yeah, there's something of that dynamic in Infinian as well, talking about autos and electrification of the European.😊
[14:55] 🎼as well so lots to think about there as we get towards the start of the European trading day coming up we'll bring you the opening trade then futures are pointing higher.😊
[14:55] Europe, this has been work.
[14:56] Bringing you up to the minute news whenever and wherever it happens, i'm david gura in aspen, colorad and this.
[14:56] 🎼When news breaks a red head across the terminal Bloberg has you covereds global.
