[04:30] It's economics, tech and climate, more than what you need to know, it's what you need to think about.
[04:30] Sheharres a tech firm mountain finishing the day in the green after its recent earnings report yesterday.
[04:30] Showed revenue up 21% on a year over year basis now the results come on a really busy stretch for media companies, remember we got dis.
[04:30] This morning we got paramount as well we're going to get warner brothers tomorrow and there's a lot of talk of course about overall the streaming space that connected to.
[04:30] Sp and more importantly, the ads that feed into them mark douglas knows more than anyone about it, he's the CEO over at mountain, mark great to see you here.
[04:30] U talk to me about where we stand right now in the connected TV space because I mean, I'm going to start with Disney's earnings because one thing that jumped out at me.
[04:31] I saw them I mean, obviously they're streaming businesses doing well or at least much better than what analyst has expected, 64% profit growth in that business.
[04:31] I think the revenue growth was like 14% ad sales overall for them and I know that kind of mixes streaming with the more linear side of their.
[04:31] Business that was only up like 3% here is that a disparity that we should be paying more attention to what's going on.
[04:31] has lost strength, obviously in ad sales that they're essentially the largest, so that in and of itself.
[04:31] It's hard to grow when you're already number one, but the year itself, I think a big theme for this year is bringing live sports to streaming.
[04:31] In so many big events with the World Cup, obviously 10 pole events like the Super Bowl, os, things like that.
[04:31] That has been the theme of the year and that has been going extremely well, I think for every media company involved in that and I think you're going to continue in.
[04:31] Future to see live sports stream on streaming platforms be a big driver of future growth.
[04:32] Is that, but I am curious, I know that this has been like the holy grarail, but I mean, I mean the sports business was kind of a drag for Disney primarily because of how much it costs.
[04:32] So I guess my question is, how does it balance out in terms of what they have to spend for the rights to air these sports with regards to.
[04:32] What they end up collecting either through ads or other sponsorships or subscription fees well I think for.
[04:32] Part ESPN has been considered somewhat in recent years under monetized because it was.
[04:32] Mly available on streaming has live sports as and of course, news the Sports Center and others.
[04:32] That is considered potentially a big bright spot for growth for their ad sales.
[04:32] And in particular for sports on streaming, so I think that's the thing to look for as Disney moves forward I want to get your thoughts.
[04:33] Particularly on kind of what you do at mountain because I mean, you deal with a lot of smaller businesses looking to sort of know get exposure.
[04:33] These40 events are really just on the connected tvs overall have you seen any sort of pullback in their spending relative to.
[04:33] You know, the gigantic players like you know the Coca Collas or whoever Yeah, not at all, as a matter of fact, I would say that right now the industry as a whole,
[04:33] There's not any pulling back occurring what you're seeing is that the biggest advertisers are very consistent in how much this spend.
[04:33] I see no reason that's not going to continue in the future quarters in the second half of the year, and then you have small and midsized average.
[04:33] is kind of the growth driver for the industry and Mountain is like basically tip of the spirit that that's what we referred to as performance CB.
[04:33] We essentially created that concept, that category, so it's a very, very healthy environment and what I mentioned earlier in terms.
[04:33] Liive sports and just kind of more people moving to streaming is just kind of the base that everyone is growing on the other thing.
[04:34] I one other thing I'll mention is I think, you know, for a while, it was Netflix and then Disney and you're seeing all the streaming networks.
[04:34] to give you the live content throw, if anything, it's kind of declining in importance is less of.
[04:35] reach if someone's not a subscribe.
[04:35] Better engagement, not just eyeballs.
[04:36] But obviously, you know someone clicking through to buy, but just the idea of feeling a more of a connection, how do you sort of adjust not only a your on your end.
[04:36] but for all the other players out.
[04:36] The biggest budgets so really it could be served social now digital underway sandis shares still under pressure down about3%.
[04:37] Sant beating on several key metrics, but a forecast that comes in a bit light.
[04:37] year sales outlook on strong travel bookings, we'll be back in a moment just with a close on bloomberg.
[04:38] Down by the U. Supreme Court for all the context and clarity you need.
[04:38] Now tons of tariff headlines until midterm election here at first on bloomberg.
[04:38] Domestic politics, that's been pretty much defined.
[04:38] Is there any chance of amending of ties?
[04:38] I don't see it there's a war, I'm not conducting any more political war against anyone I'm just trying to do my job I think it is not entirely.
[04:38] To describe that there's a war between their warring families was it a mistake to run on the same ticket as Sarah du?
[04:38] No, I don't think so, I think it was the best thing that we would do because we had the same idea of what needed to be done in government.
[04:39] Maybe that's changed, but if we look at it in the context of that period, I think that was the right thing to do still du remains.
[04:39] Very popular if she were to come to power, you can send that perhaps some of your policies might be revised.
[04:39] Very much. That is a great worry for me because we have just started. and these are big things that we are trying to do with.
[04:39] Ching the whole way that we govern, we are trying to reform the bureaucracy. These things don't get done instantly and.
[04:39] It's very, very easy to go off the rails, it is continuity that we aspire for otherwise we go back to.
[04:39] Doing business the old way.
[04:39] berg this weekend'm da i' lis and i'm christineina raffiti we're tracking breaking news today from wall street to washington.
[04:40] 🎼Weend bringing a little bloomberg into your weekend routine. watch listen stream get your fixed income fix.
[04:40] Watch Bloberg real yield every thursday at 12 pm Eastern right here on Bomberg, context changes everything.
[04:40] BN.
[04:40] In a new partnership with galaxy digital to build out its digital asset infrastructure, the move comes as the bank which already oversees62.
[04:40] Trillion dollars in assets continues to move into the digital asset business joining us right now is em portney she's the global head of Bny.
[04:40] Asset servicing business you have a lot to do these days I do want to start off with the digital asset side and we'll get to more your core.
[04:40] Competncency here, but this kind of just struck me when I saw it because I know we've heard from the CEO and the CFO talk a lot about doing a little bit more in this.
[04:40] SpaceI mean, if you're going to be a custodian, you you're a custodian for all assets, how does this sort of expand what you do Well, the announcement with Gal?
[04:41] Is just one of many partnerships that we've recently gone to market with, it allows us to stake, to do staking for assets that are under.
[04:41] Digital assets that are under custody, but what I would say if you just step back for a moment on digital assets more broadly is that there's not.
[04:41] Client conversation today where digital assets or tokenization doesn't come up and whether or not an asset manager is about to launch a product.
[04:41] Next week or in six months, they want to know what's going on in this space, so the conversation has really become mainstream.
[04:41] And last week we also announced a new capability, it is called digital Aset Transfer Agency, I don't know if you know anything about.
[04:41] s probably don't, but they sit behind every fund transaction and they're the books and records and they create the shares of funds.
[04:41] And so we now do that on chain and the reason why that's very important that the books and records of a money market fund, for example.
[04:42] Is it on chain is because suddenly that makes the money market fund available for 24/7 settlement and it also makes it.
[04:42] So you can actually use a money market fund for financing a transaction on the weekend, for example as you expand.
[04:42] And some of this has just come with the dynamics that we've been seen in the industry, a broader industry, and obviously they've come knocking on BNY's door because you've been doing this for.
[04:42] A gazillion years I am curious, though, about just the feed pressure, I mean, there are a lot of competitors in this space as well,
[04:42] Maintain that growth, but at the same time maintain some semblance of profitability of what you're doing at Bny.
[04:42] Have had a lot of success over the last several quarters and have announced a pretty incredible performance.
[04:42] That organic growth, I think we've had 10 consecutive quarters of organic growth and look fee pressure.
[04:42] Just part of the business, but if you serve clients well and if you are competitive and differentiated in your offering, which is exactly what we're.
[04:43] Along the lines of D or digital assets as well as many other innovations and clients are willing to pay for service and pay for.
[04:43] With regards to the servicing and infrastructure, particularly in the realm of alternative assets and the individual.
[04:43] Investors gravitate to alternative types of products, whether it's in a wrapper or as a standalone, how much has that business grown?
[04:43] And have you had to make significant changes to your infrastructure to accommodate this or not so alternatives more broadly private markets?
[04:43] Its specifically is definitely a growing segment of the market, and it's just becoming in old.
[04:43] Ultimately a staple of an investment portfolio, whether it's for enhanced yield, whether it's for further diversification, it' an important.
[04:43] Really of any investment portfolio. And so if you're an asset manager, you're kind of thinking about, gee, first of all, do I have those products.
[04:44] In my portfolio, in my repertoire, if not, you've seen some tie ups of different asset managers, a traditional asset.
[04:44] Uion channels are often different for all a growing attraction.
[04:44] There's a big push to want to see your public and your private market portfolio together in one single pane of glass.
[04:44] I going to be kindETFs continue also to be a very important growth.
[04:45] And especially active ETFs, likewise the wealth segment.
[04:45] Technology, I assume in your business.
[04:45] You have to be all in on that absolutely absolutely, and we were an early adopter of AI, frankly Robin was.
[04:45] Is evangelistic about it he used to come to our meetings and talk about vibe coding on the weekend.
[04:45] So I mean it got us all very very interested. and look, it's about creating more capacity, it's about reducing risk, it's about servicing our.
[04:45] Clients better we do have digital employees now about 180 of them, they have names, funny names email.
[04:45] They have access to our systems they're listed in our phone book and they do things like payment repair.
[04:46] Answ custody, queries, help with client onboarding, and it's just all about, of course, they're supervised by humans.
[04:46] Of course it just it's all about being faster, more efficient and servicing our clients better a year from now, do you think that those 180 will be a lot more than?
[04:46] Probably we'll scale up as appropriate all right great to have you here em thank you portney global head of assets.
[04:46] Servicing there and we were just talking about private markets so we do want to stick into that space and talk about rich post capital, just posting earnings to CEO Luke.
[04:46] Srsfield joining us right now to talk a little bit more about that after his assets crossed $50 billion in the second.
[04:46] 've done a lot of growing as of late we've been trying obviously we're really focused on expanding the platform and serving our clients so give me a sense here.
[04:46] You're more focused on the institutional side of fund to fund, institutional and third party and you are a third party of retail, but kind of break that down.
[04:46] I mean these are kind of a hodgepodge of businesses that you've kind of melded into one cohesive company here, so give me a sense here as to who.
[04:47] You are going after most so when you think about what we have, we have a bunch of specialized targeted offerings across.
[04:47] sThe private markets, venture capital, private equity and private debt so we can really be a full solution provider.
[04:47] There's a lot of interesting dynamics there, there are certain clients of ours that want to engage with us across one or several parts of the portfolio and there are a lot of clients.
[04:47] You want to engage with us more holistically, as you can imagine, institutional clients, large allocators, insurance companies, pensions, you know sovereign wealth.
[04:47] Are going to be much more interested in what we can do for them across that full spectrum.
[04:48] is true it's actually more stable and more resilient, let me tell you why.
[04:48] 5 times the g of the upper market, 10 times the companies that we're able to invest in, we can be much more targeted.
[04:48] Much more selective number two.
[04:48] EAnd with a lot less leverage, we're buying things with three to four times.
[04:48] Leverage upper market six, seven times leverage the net effect of all that.
[04:49] al excellence to bear to make them better, to make them more resilient.
[04:49] grow faster and ultimately we have a broader exit pool because it's all the large folks we talked about are you seeing though, but you got to be seen a lot more.
[04:49] CompI know you're seeing a lot more I would say look.
[04:49] But there's two things we have, I think that are really powerful, one is the benefit of incumbency we've been at this for.
[04:49] 25 years in some cases, even more in some cases, our largest strategy, RCP just celebrated their 25th year anniversary.
[04:49] They have been doing this an incredibly long time, and so that durability, that flywheel that they have in the middle market is something that nobody else can replicate.
[04:49] The other thing, from the very genesis of all our strategies, we have captured data, voluminous data longitudinally.
[04:50] Over the 25 years in all sorts of different ways, and so the power of the insight we can derive from that data relative to somebody who's newer to the space.
[04:50] It's just massively positively differentiated I do have to ask you about one of the other businesses under your the rich post umbrella and that is on venture debt.
[04:50] That's totally differentI assume that's totally different than the lower middle market stuff it is lower middle market venture debt, but it is venture debt debt.
[04:50] But it's a different type of company, right, or I would say so our venture debt, it's called WTI, Western technology, it's our venture debt strategy.
[04:50] By the way, they were founded in 1980, so they have been at this an awfully long time, again, focused on the durability of the franchise, but generally we are not focused.
[04:50] On what i would call the household names and technology that you're hearing every day but a lot of what theTI did back in the day invested in companies that are.
[04:50] They up being household, but they didn't start there when they were doing the initial investment is it harder to do something like that where you are?
[04:50] A looking for the next Facebookbook or Google or whatever look I think the reality is they've been doing it a long time, they have a great network.
[04:51] They're trusted partner to all the VCs. they offer an incredible kind of financing solution package to entrepreneurs and people.
[04:51] to do business with them. And so they've been incredibly successful. and I think they continue to really grow and scale that business just real quickly, only about a minute left, but I do want to.
[04:51] back to the competition thing because I feel like in the middle market, it was kind of you had a small group of players that kind of had the ball to themselves.
[04:51] ' seen some of the big players come down now you were at a big bang trying to, I mean, you're a Goldman for a gazillion years and and so I you're aware of it.
[04:51] Does it worry you at all, though, that maybe the Apollos and maybe not Goldman, but some of the others ones will finally sort of say.
[04:51] piece of this we' going I'm sure they'd like a piece of it respectfully, I think they're incredible at what they do. I think we're really good.
[04:51] We do too, those things are different things and i think there's a difference between being a local and a tourist and i think we're going to remain as the locals in the middle.
[04:52] local the middle and right great to have you here Thank you so much really appreciate itrs.
[04:52] At Ridge post capitol, we'll be back in a moment this is Bberg.
[04:52] Welcome to Bloomberg this week I'm da, I'm Lisas mate and I'm Christristina Raffiti we're tracking breaking news today from Wall Street to washing.

[04:53] region why do you think you can make that work we believe we know Mexico is a really important milestone for our great brand as we continue to lean into our.
[04:53] Global strategy it's an important country for us we recognize and admire the culinary heritage there's a little bit of irony.
[04:53] It comes to the fact that trole Mexican grill is opening up expanding into Mexico and with that in mind, what changed?
[04:53] Do have planned for me will locally source as much of the product we bring over the border today as it relates to avocados.
[04:53] and peppers but it'll be the same menu we've launched in Western Europe, the same menu we've launched in the Middle East with our partner I' show.
[04:53] And the brand really resonates well when we deliver on standard the same execution and same menu that we have in the United States.

[04:55] 🎼And people that are pushing tech to new frontiers and the politics reshaping global tech markets.
[04:55] 🎼I'm Ed Lodlow live in San Francisco and this is Bloomberg Tech, every weekday only on Bloomberg television.😊
[04:55] All right, here on this Wednesday, we had a bit of a pullback.
[04:55] From those record highs that we had on tuesday large because of a bit of a drag from some of those big tech names coming out of some of those earnings that we had.
[04:55] Yesterday, including from ad and SpaceX, we got some earnings after the bell tonight and we're going to get some more tomorrow that could potentially move the mark.
[04:55] In the morning we do get warner brothers discovery there'll be a big focus there particularly as to well the will they won't they when it comes to paramount.
[04:55] Skyd we're also going to hear from dad dog so a little bit more of an update of what's been going on in the tech space and we're going to hear from zeds.
[04:56] Health care space well health one of the best performing sectors that we had today after the close we're going to hear from sweet grain, of course, a lot of focus right now.
[04:56] That cycle sp outbreak and how it might be affecting foot traffic into the salad chain we're also going to hear from airbnb draft kings cloud flareare.
[04:56] As well as microchip technology and akaai that rounds out most of the earnings that we're going to be focused on and we're going to.
[04:56] Our attention to what's been going on with the macro that drumbeat to friday's job reports that continues on thursday, we're going to get the challenger job cut.
[04:56] Data in the morning along with the weekly jobless claims and we're also going to get a peek at wholesale inventories as well and of course there still.
[04:56] Focus on space, a big milestone, potentially nasau astronauts are scheduled to conduct a spacewalk outside the international space station first.
[04:56] Of three planned for august of of course, nasa tries to prep for its next leg pass the moon and keep.
[04:56] On the world of politics, we had several primaries last night we get another one tonight, this one coming from tennessee which could have some implicationsplication.
[04:57] For the full midterm elections, general elections that we have in noveber stick with us here joe matw, k up the.
[04:57] But the hour with a bit more of a breakdown of what's going on in the world of politics.
[04:57] You're going to see disruption.
[04:57] And in certain job functions, I don't see how that's not possible, and I don't see how anybody.
[04:57] Get them look at people in the eye and say that's not possible what percentage of customer service gets displaced it can be a large percentage.
[04:57] Of customer service, I think that function, I forgot my password word, you know, what's my billing amount are all simple and easy.
[04:57] Things for an agent to go do like what we're seeing in our customer service right now is the road stuff can be done.
[04:58] By agents, more complex is a combination of an agent and a human working hand in hand.
[04:58] To be able to satisfy that customer much better than either of them could do alone, and so I think you'll see all of those things happen.
[04:58] But I'm going to only in heavy as I think all of my colleagues will all of Fortune 100 will.
[04:58] 🎼HeOn AI,You cannot be a part of this age without understanding the technological revolution.
[04:58] Responsibility to put serious money, resource and effort into training, not just.
[04:58] Our employees, not just people that are impacted, but the communities we serve as well, because that's the age we live in.
[04:58] In case you missed it on Blueberg surveillance which analyst we've got a ask.
[04:58] Can this really continue at this rate, what we see in our data as a consumer sospending, the consumer spending in America, that means economy is okay and that probably me.
[04:59] The rest of markets and the construct and the final there what are the potential thresholds that could potentially sty me some of the pipeline?
[04:59] Because they see opportunity, what's equivalent to buying, what it's hiring, what's building a plant, whether it's inventory buildup don't miss Bloberg surveillance live.
[04:59] 🎼Every weekday we're at the epicenter of a global realignment on a scale, not seen for decades at the intersection between markets.
[04:59] 🎼Economics and geopolitics, a forum for sophisticated conversation, this is Bloomberg surveillance.
