[09:00] 🎼The multi trillion dollar industry will show you what's happening in Es like no one else I.
[09:00] Mondays on Bloberg 9hai.
[09:00] 🎼here in Hong Kong you're watching the China show I'm A Hong with Steven while we're counting down to the open of markets in greater China and our.
[09:00] Asian stocks under pressure and oil prices spike on reports of Iranianian attacks in the Strrait ofmu.
[09:00] Datehran will bar U.S. and Israelieli ships under a proposed deal with Omans.
[09:00] 🎼latestates funding round with the goal of raising $8 billion to bankroll an ambitious expansion of AI computing capacity.
[09:00] And we'll hear exclusively from the head of Pacific Basin after a jump in first half profit we'll discuss the impact of them.
[09:00] politicallitical turmoil on freight rates.
[09:01] Now as you can see, it's not your usual suspects today, don't worry, Dave and Yvonne.
[09:01] We be back next week, but it's been quite a week right in terms of what we're seeing in china not being afraid to take some countermeasure against policy that.
[09:01] The US.S has enacted and including for these banning of foreign robots, we've also been hearing all these developments related to deep.
[09:01] Now they are going through, it seems with this $8 billion and of course, the developments related to Iran andman.
[09:01] as well to somehow get traffic through the street Yeah, I mean obviously this latest move by ir essentially.
[09:01] Coming up with this deal with Oman, it's surely not going over well in washington, dc, which is looking for more.
[09:02] Sessions not necessarily doubling down and adding to the rhetoric, if you will, on the standoff between the United states.
[09:02] Andtehran now deepse, we have been reporting about the second round of funding for quite some time upwards 8 billion just on set she'll be talking.
[09:02] through it in just a minute, but again, it was a pause last month after the founder, the chairman made those comments that were sort of.
[09:02] Waves that raised eyebrows yes, but it also goes to the point of you know the bullishness as well in the spending and how much.
[09:02] Will these lower cost models in china be willing to do with power right their pricing power but still without.
[09:02] Proper commercialization and monetization speaking of monetization, I think the other thing that we just have to highlight to our audience members is how.
[09:02] The central bank is also now adding gold in hong k to boost its status, i suppose, as a trading hub, and of course, this is something.
[09:02] long the lines of what we've been seeing in terms of Hong Kong status as a goal trading hub. and we also want to talk a bit more about the market.
[09:03] Set up for today of course, because the memory trade is again in focus we also have the yen while it's weakening again.
[09:03] Our bloom markets reporter Anthonyony sts for the big themes in markets today it's an interesting day, right macro.
[09:03] Way to micro a little bit. So on the first board, we'll have the Japan earnings. It's a big day for Japan earnings and moves are all over the place.😊
[09:03] Japan has a nice representation top and bottom of the AI trade. So first off we had Nintendo, which was a big victim of this kind of memory.😊
[09:03] Supply crunch. It's kind of punching out of that with some of the performance of its new gains. And as a big underperformer versus the rest of the market, It's seen quite a.😊
[09:03] Today on the other side of things is Sobank. Sobank is obviously the fundraiser of choice in the AI trade globally. and some of.😊
[09:03] That optimism is starting to fade, as despite beating on the net income level, investors are really concerned about how aggressive they.
[09:04] Are going forward in investing into new AI ventures while not bringing some of the existing holdings to markets such as.
[09:04] Open AI. So the funding concerns around Sobank continue to swirl. And you're seeing that in the market. Now, lasertech is a maker of.
[09:04] Cquipment in Japan, that shows you what happens when you miss very high AI expectations. That stock is down 12%, but on the other side of the.
[09:04] You have Resonac, much easier, clean bit, and the stock is higher. So switch the burden now to Korea, which for once, is having quite a quiet day.😊
[09:04] And one of the reasons for that is that the memory picture is becoming a lot more mature. Everyone knows that HBM is booked.😊
[09:04] Out into the far future, beyond2027, according to some reports. But there is some pressure from consumers of memory on.
[09:04] Pricing there's some pushback, and that is kind of net net evening out in Korea as Samsung offsets Heix. Now, what's very interesting is Korea started to.😊
[09:04] Pull off its very high volatility readings. It was trading 90 and 80 ball. And I started to come off as the markets come down and.
[09:05] One reason for that is some of the steam coming out of upside chasing by Korean retail in either volatility or.
[09:05] In leverage ETfs, which need to buy voluntary data. So this is something very important towards watch going forward in Korea, do we move away from this.
[09:05] Bull run to a steady grind in that market. Now switch the board again to a kind of unspoken about dynamic in Asia, which is kind of.
[09:05] Positive, you see emerging market Fx has started to move past the oil crisis here. And part of the reason for that is.
[09:05] K, the Korean won has started to strengthen significantly as Korea's AI exports start to come into play. The Chinese Uan has obviously been.
[09:05] Strong the entire year. And that continues to draw flow under EmFx. And as these smaller countries begin to shake off the Iran.
[09:05] W you are seeing this index breakout. Now, this index is, of course, very top heavy to the likes of China and Korea and.
[09:06] mightight be a lot of frontier markets underneath that are struggling. But for the vast majority of the money in EmFx, things have really moved on.
[09:06] From the Iran Walk crisisisAll right Anthony, thanks so much Bloomberg's market reporter Anthony Stevens despite reports that Iran.
[09:06] Wants to bar U.S. and Israelieli ships from the Str of Hormu President Trumpmp has reiterated that the waterway remains.
[09:06] I don't want to say it has been sort of opened right now. You know, we have a thing called the blockade.
[09:06] It headed up by the U.S. Navy and we control it, and now we control it, but they can always shoot something, they always have something.
[09:06] Or drop a mine, I think we're doing very well, just, you know, I'm involved in the negotiation, I think we're doing fine.
[09:06] For more Bloomberg managing editor Jill dius joins us now so what is going on?
[09:06] One narrative coming from Donald Trump, you have also in tehran, essentially making more demands as they do this proposed.
[09:07] With OmanAnd then on the sidelines of this, you have the Hootis ramping up their attacks on the Saudi Baed government.
[09:07] Yes that's right, stve, i think the other thing to you to remember with some of these Trumpmp remarks is that remember it was at this point, I think more than 48 hours ago that he was saying.
[09:07] That the U.S and iran would reach some kind of a deal involving the Strrait of hers within 48 hours, so we've once again surpassed another dead.
[09:07] At which there was some sort of expectation that maybe the U.. and iran might at least come to some kind of a partial deal.
[09:07] Obviously we're not seeing that and instead what you're really seeing I think you mentioned earlier in this program, that idea that neither side really seems to be making concessions so much.
[09:07] additional demands, and I think when you're looking at this ir oman proposed deal so this, according to Iranianian state media still has to go through.
[09:07] Parliament, but essentially looking to block ships from the U.S. and israel from transiting through the Strrait of Hamms, looking at imposing.
[09:08] You knowSome additional tolls or other forms of compensation on what they deem as hostile countries trying to transit that waterway really indicate.
[09:08] that we're not really at a place where even it looks set to return to the state of things prior to the con.
[09:08] How far do you think the U might be willing to go, though, I mean, given these Iran demands and I suppose.
[09:08] All this is not being taken well in washing, I mean they're asking for the lifting of the naval blockade, the Iranians.
[09:08] I think there's a couple of things that you really have to consider when it comes to the US.'s positioning here, so first of all, there is already outside of just control over the stit of her.
[09:08] And transit through there you've got other issues that it doesn't seem like the U.S and iran were able to really come to the table with anyway in particular.
[09:08] As when it comes to capabilities involving Iran's nuclear program, so that I mean, that was a sticking point at this point months ago and that's just completely.
[09:08] Outside of the realm of conversation here, the other thing, if you're the U.S. and if you're Donald Trump in particular that you're really concerned about right now or maybe increasingly growing concern.
[09:09] About is those U midterms in nove which are approaching ever closer I mean, look, you know, a lot of those are domestic contests, but ultimately that.
[09:09] down to. U. civilian concerns about price pressures, inflation, fuel costs, all of these kind of things that.
[09:09] Donald trump has to want to resolve this war prior to those elections in order to start bringing some of those costs and those pressures down.
[09:09] It be something that's only growing and is fine because it's getting, you, ever closer inflationary pressures, I suppose, even though when it comes to.
[09:09] The weight of energy in that basket, I think that pressure has been mitigated a little bit given what we're seeing out of the U.S. B is still at 80.
[09:09] Thank you jill for walking us through all this blueB manager editor jillis when it comes to.
[09:09] The focus that we see today also in the tech space as we highlighted a short while ago, bloomberg has also learned that deep sea.
[09:10] Is resuming its second funding round ands seeking close to $8 billion let's bring our chin correspondent in low so what do we know about this funding?
[09:10] How much interest is there yeah we don't have a lot of details we know that monolith management is going to be participating in this round, not sure who else.
[09:10] Is in the list of investors, but the first round of fundraising had drawn interest from the likes of Alibaba, Ten0cent and the state fund the national.
[09:10] Atificial intelligence investment fund. So certainly, we are expecting a lot of interest in this company, which has been such an icon in the Chinese AI space.😊
[09:10] Where especially after it launched the V4 flash model, which was very successful, was one of the most used models for a number of.😊
[09:10] And of course, a big part of the funding is going to go into its AI data center buildout. We previously reported that it was planning to build this one gig.
[09:10] What data center in inner Mongolia, That is something that could cost tens of billions of dollars. And, yes, in terms of the valuation that.
[09:10] It's seeking it's looking at 500 billion yuan, which is quite a step up from the previous round of 350 billion yuan.
[09:11] Essentially this V4 flash AI model tell us about what cost performance curve and the willing.
[09:11] Of investors you mentioned monolith, which is the Hongng Kong based active investor that's backed by former partners.
[09:11] Fromequoia and bou, what does that tell you as well about their appetite for continuing to pour money into the?
[09:11] Desers and the like and these large language models, so when it comes to the v4 flash, it was launched with a steep discount.
[09:11] That was what made it one of the most used models at one point to the extent that there's this idea of the deep seat death.
[09:11] ZoneThat's been coin, so companies that are maybe less outstanding in performance or maybe same level of performance but more.😊
[09:11] Expenensive they may not be able to survive, but the surprise came yesterday when D announced that it was going to hike prices significantly.
[09:12] It hasn't exactly detailed how much the price hike is going to be, but it started warning clients to prepare for that move so this is significant.
[09:12] First half earnings and of course, always at this time, we're counting down to the open of trade in Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
[09:12] There's Hong Kong, nice day, it's hot though, hot, this is the China show.
[09:14] the most important news and financial.
[09:14] 🎼As markets open across Europe I' Gu Johnson. I Edwards and I'm Tom Mc. this is your opening trade only on.
[09:14] 🎼In case you missed it on Daybreak you, we're talked going with the EU regulator on this though.
[09:14] For their companies all the time, you see the Chinese fighting for their companies all the time.
[09:14] In Europe, I feel I'm fighting against the European regulators, Not that they are fighting for us. They are fighting against us. It's a big mistake, because we need to have.
[09:14] 🎼Really big global tech leaders.
[09:15] Yield now at its new time thursdays at 12 pm Eastern right here on bloomberg.
[09:15] It's jobs day and bloomberg has the report under surveillance like market backdrop still pretty decent.
[09:15] Then Lisa and Marie and Mike will.
[09:15] 🎼Bring you crucial data and expert analysis at terminal speed. the labor market seems okay. We don't see any wage pressures.
[09:15] 🎼In the economy world building up to one thing. the July jobs report.
[09:15] Insre gettings and furious Reuters reporting that Alibaba is to charge big users.
[09:16] It's next open source.
[09:16] Just keep on using it for free, right and it's interesting also because you look at the stock market backdrop.
[09:16] Coming at the time where the southbound flows, okay maybe a bit tentative this week, but it has been actually doing well over.
[09:16] The stock connect and maybe some of these investments coming into Hongng Kong from the mainland there you go, so you have those numbers.
[09:16] Let's bring in Winnie Wu, she's head of APEC equity strategy at BFA Global Research, Winnie, great to have you.
[09:17] Maybe the internet platform names a bit more, does it help bring that money, that rotation back into Hongng Kong.
[09:17] The sentiment is certainly shift.
[09:17] We're trading above the 200 day moving the average. And that's usually a sign of market botaning since then in July, we see some.
[09:17] Improv in terms of the market press. I think, you know, currently people, a lot of investor view is that the AI rally is not over.
[09:17] AI is structural and there is real earnings contribution. But nonetheless, you know, the extreme concentration in the upstream.
[09:17] In the semi stock in the memory stock is probably broadening out. And people look at the cloud, for example, as one area where we see good revenue.
[09:17] Grow and this monetization is a big concern for Chinese Internet platforms in particular, is that can you monetize on the two.
[09:18] The end and the more success you become in your LLM, the more costly it will become for your earnings. right, That's the concern.😊
[09:18] So how do you see it, I mean to just paint the picture between the Asian markets and here in Hongng Kongong, you're saying that tightening.
[09:18] Focus on AI is starting to broaden out what does that basically mean for the second half, but in China you're seeing that breadth sort of.
[09:18] Losing steam. Yeah, so I think for second half, for now, second half, there are a couple things at play.
[09:18] Pro what is this whole AI Capex story, right, We're looking we follow in the US big tech company's Capex guidance.
[09:18] People looking at your free cash flow situation to see the sustainability of that, people looking for new monetization opportunities.😊
[09:18] Is there suddenly going to be some killer app or edge devices or physical AI that will drive another wave of this demand?
[09:19] For upstream capacity. but on the other side, people are also watching the Fed decision, What does it mean for cost of capital.
[09:19] The capital raising for these capex is becoming more and more important, but back to China.😊
[09:19] Now, I think, you know, earning season is important. right, That's why some of the e-com platforms has been doing well recently because people.
[09:19] Exspecting reduce a subsidy to quick commerce, hopefully will drive better earnings, whereas some of the other large platform more in the.
[09:19] dia advertisement sector are still struggling a little bit, right, So you know, earn season, the dynamic is very important.
[09:20] Yeah, and we're waiting out for China to trade data for the month of July the hour after next, but talk to us as well when you look at the earnings.
[09:20] And the expected outlook because you know, st were just talking about this yesterday, right the tax?
[09:20] Is that China's overall government revenue to GDP, including the tax, including like land sales revenue was.
[09:21] But now with this low level, governor probably need to rebuild some of the tax capability, but also is that.
[09:21] China's golden tax phase4 with the CRRS the common reporting standard exchange of tax information.
[09:21] On gold in November last year.
[09:21] There was the VAT increase on Telcos in January. There's talks about Social Security contribution enforcement in July.
[09:21] Last month, we heard the tax on individuals offshore income, whether it's insurance or trust, and they're trying to spur demand.
[09:21] Well, you know, it's a long term versus short term thing with the aging population, you need to build up the safety.
[09:21] How much of a headwind when is that?
[09:22] It will be imbalance for a particular sector, the impact will be particularly strong, for example, in second half last year, for like some of the pharmaceutical.😊
[09:22] CxOs, it could be as much as 7% of the pretexax income. Also even in first quarter this year, we saw some of the EV companies.
[09:22] CompSo companies, factory companies, some of the export oriented tech hardware companies, theyve reported significant.
[09:22] The Fx lossesAnd typically, this will be worse for sectors which already face overcapacity and low pricing power.
[09:22] Do you think the trend of that appreciation of the Remin B versus the basket as well as the U.S dollars as lost steam pretty much?
[09:22] as as it will go Yeah, personally, I feel like it's getting a little bit stretched because historically, you know, people look at the U.
[09:22] Versus China Treasury yield spread as a predictor or leading indicator for the RMB, and that yield spread has been widened.
[09:23] Right, you know, US10 year Treasury is using like 300 basis points higher than China. So why should people own the Em currency and also it has been.
[09:23] Dviating from the stock market performance. So it looks like it's getting a bit stretch, especially if we see more geopolitical tensions under.
[09:23] trus sheer meeting next month there's something else that we have to watch out for as well have.
[09:23] Thank you so much head of APEC E strategygy at BFA Global Research now we just for you of course, a bit of info.
[09:23] Aliba and going to be these major users for its model.
[09:23] Indications ticking up a little bit in trade will continue tracking the market open, this is Bomberg.
[09:24] In case you missed it on Bberg surveillance the relax.
[09:24] economyconomy is I think one of the coolest things we've done in the long time, a blocked middle seat and coach is just another example, Scott, have you had that idea for a long time?
[09:24] In fairness, Air New Zealand is one that came up with it and I've wanted to do it ever since they did it of all the stuff we've done, I personally think it is one of the cool.
[09:25] 🎼I love the idea to relax when I was a teenager young in my20s flying when I saw an empty row of.
[09:25] Three seats and the plane taken off I'd never been more excited and as soon as you got up to about 35,000 feet I was on it.
[09:25] Trying to lie down and move the armrest to make this work I spent a number of trips when I was young and nonreving doing the same thing weren't you the same you spot those three.
[09:25] and they see someone outside and get up it actually happened with my younger son don't miss Bberg surveillance live.
[09:25] .
[09:25] 🎼Seatives global innovators join me for in depth conversations with the biggest news makes on the days top.😊
[09:25] Stories in with has linda on him only on bloom back bringing you up the news.

[09:26] The show here's what we're going to be watching in greater China as we wrap up this week and head into the weekend, much deserved right ever.
[09:26] As we were just talking with Winnie there, the MSCI, China, third week of gains, we're looking at the market there, obviously with the geopolitical situation.
[09:26] And also deep seek is very much tied to that as well, the confidence as they go into the second funding round.
[09:26] Seeking close to $8 billion monolith management in talks to contribute their reopening this round of funding.
[09:26] The deep seek paused the process in july after leaked remarks from its founder July trade data coming up tradepl.
[09:26] In june was $125 billion, only one month on record was higher than that total.
[09:27] Exports expected to increase 23% up to 27% gain in june that is your agenda for this fri.
[09:27] Yeah and we'll watch as well how markets open for the moment is looking pretty flat, tech will of course be in focus.

[09:25] .
