Yuhan Corporation (000100.KS) rose more than 7 percent in early trading on news that it will cancel 420 billion won worth of treasury shares.
As of 9:21 a.m. on the 24th, Yuhan was trading at 76,200 won, up 6.72 percent from the previous session, according to the Korea Exchange.
The buying interest was attributed to the company's disclosure the previous day that it would cancel all of its treasury shares to enhance shareholder value.
Yuhan held a board meeting on the 23rd and announced it would cancel 425.3376 billion won worth of previously acquired treasury shares. The volume to be canceled amounts to 7.6 percent of total outstanding common shares (79,647,601 shares) and 2.8 percent of preferred shares (1,180,940 shares), representing all treasury shares held by the company. The cancellation amount was calculated based on the closing prices the day before the board resolution—70,200 won for common shares and 58,400 won for preferred shares.
Meanwhile, after announcing in 2024 that it would cancel 802,090 shares, or 1 percent of outstanding shares, by 2027, Yuhan canceled 240,627 shares (about 36.2 billion won) in May 2025 and 836 shares (25.3 billion won) in January this year.
