Kim Dong-yoon, the eldest son of Korea Investment Holdings Chairman Kim Nam-goo, has been promoted to an executive position at Korea Investment & Securities. The promotion, coming seven years after he joined the company, places him as managing director of planning at the Management Planning Division, the group's equivalent of a "strategy office."
On the 4th, Korea Investment & Securities announced that it had appointed Kim Dong-yoon as managing director of planning at the Management Planning Division through a regular personnel reshuffle the previous day. Kim, born in 1993, graduated from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom before joining Korea Investment & Securities in 2019. He started as a staff member at the Gangbuk branch and worked in the investment banking (IB) division and the management strategy office, most recently serving at the company's U.S. subsidiary.
Some in the financial investment industry suggest that the succession process at Korea Investment Holdings may be accelerating, given that Kim has now taken an executive role at the Management Planning Division, which establishes the group's mid- to long-term vision and business direction. Kim currently holds a 0.6% stake (336,739 shares) in Korea Investment Holdings. After first purchasing 52,739 shares (0.09%) in July 2023, his fourth year at the company, he steadily increased his stake through 2024. A Korea Investment & Securities official explained, "This is not a personnel move for succession purposes."
