TMAP Mobility said on the 4th that it is introducing a "Walking Route Guidance" service, a navigation system centered on pedestrians rather than drivers. Based on the route-guidance technology accumulated through its driver navigation, the service is designed to offer pedestrians an intuitive guidance experience that requires no separate manipulation.
With the new walking route guidance, the map automatically rotates according to the user's direction of travel and the screen moves along with it, guiding users to their destination without any need to zoom in and out or adjust direction. Turning points are announced in advance, and if the user strays from the route, the system identifies the current location in real time and provides an optimal route again.
The company also strengthened its place recommendation function linked to walking. Through the "Where to Go" service, it recommends places within 1 km of the current location that can be reached on foot, and users can immediately receive walking route guidance to the selected destination. It is also linked to the "Movement Log," which records and manages visited places, so that after arriving, users can perform a "place check-in" to easily review the places they have been.
"This is a service that extends TMAP's competitiveness, built up through car navigation, into the walking domain," a TMAP Mobility official said. "We will continue to advance the service so that the entire journey process, encompassing both driving and walking, can be connected into a single experience."
Meanwhile, as a "mobility life platform" that accompanies every context of movement, TMAP offers a range of services covering not only drivers but also pedestrians. A representative example is the "Pedometer" service, which provides various benefits based on the number of steps taken. Targeting weekends when movement is high, the "Pedometer Weekend Booster" event, which offers twice the points compared to weekdays, is currently underway.
