FDA Approves Reduced Monitoring Time For Amgen's First Two IMDELLTRA Doses

) announced that the U.S. FDA has approved an update to the IMDELLTRA (tarlatamab-dlle) Prescribing Information, substantially reducing the recommended monitoring time for the first two doses of treatment in an appropriate healthcare setting.
Extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) is an aggressive and difficult-to-treat disease, and patients often face significant burdens associated with prolonged treatment monitoring. The updated guidance allows patients receiving IMDELLTRA to be monitored for 6 to 8 hours from the start of their first two infusions, compared with the previously recommended 22 to 24 hours. Patients will continue to receive a follow-up assessment, including vital signs, the day after each of these doses.
According to Amgen, the reduced monitoring requirement may lessen the time patients spend in healthcare settings during the initial treatment period and simplify administration for community oncology practices, where an estimated 80% to 85% of U.S. cancer patients receive care.
Jay Bradner, M.D, executive vice president of Research and Development, Artificial Intelligence and Data at Amgen, stated that the approval represents "an important step in simplifying care for people living with and treating ES-SCLC," noting that shorter monitoring may help address practical barriers and enable more patients to receive treatment closer to home.
David M. Waterhouse, MD, MPH, FASCO, a medical oncologist/hematologist at Oncology Hematology Care in Cincinnati, added that reducing the monitoring period may make IMDELLTRA more feasible to administer in community practices, helping patients avoid long travel distances and extended time away from their support systems.
AMGN has traded between $269.77 and $447.03 over the past year. The stock is currently trading at $377.40, up 0.01%.
