Rare diseases often pose diagnostic challenges, with patients and families undergoing years of testing without receiving a definitive diagnosis. GenomeNext combines whole genome sequencing, RNA analysis and ongoing reanalysis to help identify and interpret disease-causing genetic changes that may be missed or remain uncertain through conventional testing.
The solution uses a pangenome reference designed to better represent human genetic diversity and improve genetic variant detection across diverse ancestral backgrounds. Integrated RNA analysis through GenomeReveal provides additional evidence to help interpret certain DNA findings and potentially improve diagnostic yield.
The offering also includes Ambry's Patient for Life program, which enables laboratory-initiated reanalysis of patient data as scientific knowledge about genes and diseases evolves. This process can help identify clinically meaningful changes in the interpretation of previously negative or uncertain genetic test results.
According to data cited by Ambry, its laboratory-driven reanalysis has resulted in positive reclassifications in 5% of previously negative or uncertain cases. The company also cited published research indicating that RNA analysis can significantly increase diagnostic yield.
