The moment the engine started and my foot rested on the accelerator, a heavy sensation surged through. The pedal did not press down lightly, but it shot forward as honestly as it was pushed. The body delivered a sensation of being pressed tightly to the ground. Even when crossing speed bumps, there was no floating feeling as it returned straight to the ground, and it maintained a stable posture without leaning when carving into corners.
I recently drove the new "911 Turbo S," which began domestic deliveries in May, back and forth between Jung-gu in Seoul and Namyangju in Gyeonggi Province. As the new top-tier model of the 911, Porsche's iconic model, it showed tremendous driving performance.
The highlight was the overboost function. The instant the button is pressed, explosive output pours out for 20 seconds along with a roar, and the moment I stepped on it, my body sank into the seat as an uncontrollable thrust surged forward. The actual car takes just 2.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h from a standstill, and its top speed reaches 322 km/h. This is thanks to two electric exhaust gas turbos (eTurbo) meshing with a new 3.6-liter boxer engine to create instant responsiveness. With a total system output of 711 horsepower and maximum torque of 81.6 kg·m, it has the most powerful specifications among all production 911s ever made.
However, the stiff suspension setup characteristic of sports cars must be taken into account. Even on small speed bumps, the impact was transmitted directly, and switching to Sport mode made the ride even firmer. The rear seat space was practically at a level where people would find it difficult to sit, making it hard to find any reason for its existence. The cargo space was also far from generous, so this is not a car to drive expecting as much practicality as one might anticipate.
The advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) was at a decent level. Its reaction speed in recognizing cars cutting in was quite usable. The seat adjustment was very detailed, offering the fun of finding a position that fits the body perfectly. Voice recognition could control things like the air conditioner or ventilated seats, but did not support opening and closing windows or switching to Sport mode. This is probably due to safety concerns.
The elegant yet dynamic design is the crown jewel of the Porsche 911. The Turbo model's exclusive color "Turbonite" is applied to the crest, the vehicle's rear lettering, and the rear wing slats, while the wider body compared to the "Carrera" model, the air intakes on the rear side section, and the titanium exhaust system reveal a presence befitting the top-tier model. The interior gives a luxurious feel, with carbon trim and a microfiber headliner blending together.
The new 911 Turbo S was released in two models: the Coupe and the Cabriolet. They are priced at 342.7 million won and 358.9 million won, respectively.
