As the artificial intelligence (AI) agent era arrives, the growing importance of central processing units (CPUs)—which distribute tasks to graphics processing units (GPUs) and coordinate systems as a whole—has prompted the launch of an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that invests intensively in related companies.
Samsung Asset Management said on the 4th that it has newly listed the "KODEX US CPU Semiconductor TOP10," which invests in central processing unit (CPU) companies that have emerged as the core of the AI industry.
The product invests intensively in three companies leading the global CPU market: ARM, AMD, and Intel. While GPUs, led by Nvidia, have driven the growth of the AI industry, the "orchestration" function of CPUs—which distribute and manage GPU tasks—is becoming more important as the AI agent era gets underway in earnest.
The KODEX US CPU Semiconductor TOP10 is designed to invest intensively in companies leading the CPU market and their related value chains. It includes a total of 10 stocks selected from common shares or American depositary receipts (ADRs) listed on U.S. exchanges with a market capitalization of $10 billion or more and average daily trading value of $10 million or more over the past three months. Specifically, it invests more than 25% each in ARM, AMD, and Intel, with the remainder filled by CPU value chain companies such as Qualcomm, Marvell Technology, Navitas Semiconductor, and Cadence Design Systems.
Competition among global big tech companies seeking to secure high-performance CPUs is also intensifying. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang unveiled plans to develop the next-generation CPU "Vera" at "GTC 2026" held this March. Google is sequentially deploying its in-house developed CPU "Axion" in data centers, and Microsoft has also introduced "Azure Cobalt 200," a cloud CPU specialized for agentic AI. ARM has likewise entered the market by partnering with Meta to launch "Arm AGI CPU," its first proprietary data center CPU in the 35 years since its founding.
"In the AI agent era, the weight of CPUs, which coordinate the entire system and control data and workflow, will grow even greater," said Kim Cheon-heung, a manager at Samsung Asset Management. "Demand to secure CPUs is also expected to continue rising."
