Ottogi will build a large-scale export-only production base in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, to respond to growing global demand for Korean ramen. The strategy aims to accelerate its push into overseas markets by strengthening production capacity and smart manufacturing capabilities.
Ottogi Ramen, Ottogi's ramen production subsidiary, said it will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on investment with Gumi City, North Gyeongsang Province, on the 13th to build export ramen production facilities.
Under the agreement, Ottogi Ramen will invest a total of 200 billion won from this year through 2029 to build a new export ramen production plant in the Gumi No. 2 National Industrial Complex. The investment is also expected to create 120 new jobs.
Ottogi currently exports major products, including "Jin Ramen," to more than 70 countries, and plans to use the new plant as a key production base handling global export volumes.
The agreement covers not only investment in production facilities but also cooperation in the foodtech sector. Ottogi Ramen, North Gyeongsang Province, and Gumi City agreed to pursue cooperation in various areas, including the expansion of smart manufacturing, export manufacturing innovation, manufacturing data standardization, and related regulatory improvements.
Ottogi is also accelerating the expansion of its overseas business. The company is expanding its global bases in the United States, Vietnam, and Japan, targeting 1.1 trillion won in overseas sales by 2030. The new Gumi plant is part of its strategy to strengthen production infrastructure to boost export competitiveness.
"The Gumi plant is a key investment that goes beyond simply expanding production capacity to enhance our global export response capabilities and lay the foundation for sustainable growth," said Lee Shin-hyuk, CEO of Ottogi Ramen. "We will work with North Gyeongsang Province and Gumi City to contribute to revitalizing the regional economy and creating jobs."
