Lotte Wellfood is accelerating its push into the local market, posting double-digit growth just one year after launching LOTTE India, an Indian subsidiary that integrated its confectionery and ice cream businesses. Analysts say its "ONE INDIA" strategy of integrating production bases and distribution networks is beginning to deliver tangible results.
Lotte Wellfood said on the 13th that LOTTE India's sales in the first half of this year rose approximately 28% from the same period a year earlier. The company explained that its strategy of unifying production, logistics, and sales networks after merging its Indian confectionery corporation with its ice cream subsidiary Havmor last year led to the improved performance.
The ice cream business drove the growth. Sales in the ice cream segment increased 29% year-on-year. As the new plant in Pune, Maharashtra, which began full operation last February, stabilized, production volume increased approximately 85% from the first half of last year, allowing the company to actively respond to peak-season demand. Centered on the Pune plant, Lotte's flagship brands were successively introduced, including Dwaeji-bar and Subak-bar sold under the local name "Crunch" and Jaws-bar launched as "Shark," strengthening the competitiveness of K-ice cream.
The confectionery business also continued its stable growth. First-half sales increased 26% year-on-year. Expanding coverage of traditional distribution channels (TT) such as marts and convenience stores broadened the sales base and contributed to the improved performance.
To sustain the growth momentum, Lotte Wellfood plans to add and operate a fourth Choco Pie production line at its Rohtak plant in Haryana. The company also intends to continue integrating its sales networks, which had been divided into southern, northern, and western regions, to improve production and logistics efficiency and enhance profitability.
At the same time, the company aims to expand local sales of flagship brands such as Pepero and Dwaeji-bar to strengthen the competitiveness of Korean brands, targeting 1 trillion won in annual revenue in the Indian market by 2032.
"Since the launch of the integrated corporation, production and distribution efficiency have improved significantly," a Lotte Wellfood official said. "Based on the expanded introduction of core brands and infrastructure synergy, we will leap forward as India's leading comprehensive food company."
