Merck & Co.(MRK.US)

Gilead Sciences, Inc. (GILD) announced that the European Commission has granted marketing authorization for Trodelvy (sacituzumab govitecan-hziy) in combination with Keytruda (pembrolizumab).
The treatment regimen has been approved for adult patients with unresectable, locally advanced or metastatic triple-negative breast cancer whose tumors express PD-L1 with a combined positive score (CPS 10) and who have not received prior systemic therapy for metastatic disease.
Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most aggressive form of breast cancer, accounting for about 15% of cases, and disproportionately affects younger, premenopausal, Black and Hispanic women. It is associated with higher recurrence rates, faster progression, and lower survival compared to other breast cancer types.
Trodelvy is a first-in-class Trop-2 directed ADC linked to SN-38, a topoisomerase I inhibitor payload. Its design allows potent activity against Trop-2 expressing tumor cells and the surrounding microenvironment through a bystander effect.
Trodelvy plus Keytruda is the first antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) plus immunotherapy combination approved in first-line metastatic TNBC across the European Union, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
This follows the EC's earlier approval of Trodelvy as monotherapy for patients not eligible for PD-1 or PD-L1 inhibitor therapy, establishing Trodelvy as a backbone therapy across PD-L1 status.
The approval is supported by results from the Phase 3 ASCENT-04 /KEYNOTE-D19 study, which showed Trodelvy plus Keytruda significantly improved progression-free survival compared to chemotherapy plus Keytruda, reducing the risk of disease progression or death by 35% in PD-L1-positive metastatic TNBC patients.
More than 75,000 patients worldwide have been treated with Trodelvy since 2020, and it remains the only Trop-2 ADC to demonstrate meaningful overall survival benefit in two distinct types of metastatic breast cancer.
This EC decision marks a milestone in broadening treatment options for metastatic TNBC, positioning Trodelvy-based regimens as a new standard in first-line care across PD-L1 status in Europe.
GILD has traded between $108.46 and $157.29 over the past year. The stock closed Friday's trading (August 21, 2026) at $146.12, up 1.87%. In pre-market trading the stock is at $147.21, up 0.75%.
