Naver (035420.KS) will invest 130 billion won in Kream, a limited-edition trading platform, in the second half of this year. The plan aims to make Kream Asia's largest limited-edition trading platform on the back of aggressive infrastructure investment.
Naver held a board meeting on the 4th and resolved to participate in Kream's paid-in capital increase by acquiring 38,681 common shares, the company said in a regulatory filing. Once the investment is completed, Naver's cumulative investment in Kream will rise to approximately 180 billion won. Naver said the purpose of the investment was "to secure funding to enhance business scale."
Kream is a limited-edition trading platform that was spun off from Naver affiliate Snow in 2020. Although it started with sneaker trading, it has been diversifying its business areas into apparel, luxury, lifestyle, and tech. The proportion of categories other than sneakers expanded from about half of total transaction value in 2024 to 63% last year.
In January, Kream launched "Kream Gold," a gold and silver trading brokerage service, and last month unveiled its first in-house fashion brand "Acryl" in collaboration with Japanese creative director Tanaka Yo, broadening its business scope. Going forward, it plans to advance its business model by launching its own intellectual property (IP) in the form of exclusive products and collaborations.
Kream intends to use this investment funding as a springboard to accelerate its push into overseas markets. Kream currently holds Japan's Soda as a consolidated subsidiary. Soda recorded revenue of 190.4 billion won last year, up 57% from the previous year, establishing itself as a new cash cow.
Furthermore, Kream is pursuing the construction of an integrated distribution infrastructure covering all of Southeast Asia by connecting major Asian platform networks, including Japan's SNKRDUNK, Thailand's Sasom, and Indonesia's Kick Avenue. Based on this network, Kream aims to grow into a global commerce platform handling products across all areas—from K-fashion to beauty, sports, tickets, trading cards, and character IP—in local markets.
