Smilegate's Korean first-person psychological horror game "Golmokgil: Guiheun," in which a familiar back alley transforms into an unfamiliar and eerie space, is being officially launched in the global market. It arrives on Steam nine months after its domestic release, supporting six languages including Korean. Separately, the two end-content offerings of "Anipang 2" for its most skilled players surpassed 500 million cumulative plays. An unusual record also drew attention: of the roughly 30,000 players enjoying the end content, about 20,000 are founding members who have played since 2014. Com2uS will hold a showcase for its blockbuster new MMORPG "Zeus: God of Arrogance" on the 7th of next month.
◇Smilegate Launches Authentic K-Horror 'Golmokgil: Guiheun' Globally=Smilegate is officially launching its Korean psychological horror game "Golmokgil: Guiheun" in the global market. First introduced domestically through Stove in October last year to positive reviews, "Golmokgil" has now undergone a global version update and will meet users worldwide via Steam.
"Golmokgil" is a first-person psychological horror game in which the player becomes the protagonist "Soyeon" and is placed in a situation where a familiar back alley she has passed through countless times suddenly transforms into an unfamiliar and eerie space. The only tool given to the player is a smartphone. Using its camera, the player must photograph strange spots and judge for themselves whether they are "guiheun," supernatural traces that cannot exist in reality, or "heokkaebi," ominous but explainable illusions.
The player can send their judgment via text message to a shaman grandmother and receive an answer. The closer the player gets to the truth by getting answers right, the ghost draws nearer with every wrong answer. A total of 64 anomalies are hidden, and accurate judgment on each is directly linked to the player's survival.
Developer AIXLab started from the idea that true horror lies in the closest places, and sought to capture through "Golmokgil" the chilling sensation of a late-night walk home when a familiar space suddenly feels strange. The game realistically recreates the scenery of Korean alleys, including narrow lanes, familiar neighborhood shops, and familiar sounds, while embodying horror stemming from ordinary spaces themselves through the process of all of this gradually distorting. In particular, the chase sequences that follow from the moment the ghost's presence is detected deliver a tension that leaves no time to look back.
The global version of "Golmokgil" supports six languages including Korean, English, Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, and Russian, and is ready to meet more global users through Stove and Steam. More details about the game can be found on the game page within Stove.
◇'Anipang 2' End Content Records 500 Million Plays in 20 Months=The two highest-level content offerings enjoyed by the top players of WeMade Play's (123420) mobile puzzle game "Anipang 2" have surpassed 500 million cumulative plays.
The record was set by two content offerings: "Constellation Rescue," a cooperative puzzle in which some 30,000 users at the game's highest level defeat a boss, and "Black Hole," an individual puzzle solving the highest-difficulty stages. As of the end of June, "Constellation Rescue" recorded some 120 million puzzle plays over 15 months, while "Black Hole" recorded some 410 million over 20 months, for a combined total of some 530 million plays.
Along with this record, stories of the puzzle experts competing on the highest-difficulty stages were also revealed. In "Black Hole," which consists of infinitely presented highest-difficulty puzzle stages, top puzzle players used 1.2 items per stage, showing a lower usage frequency than the overall average. Regarding this, the development team explained that it is a play pattern befitting top players who focus on strategy rather than items. In addition, of the founding members who have enjoyed the game since "Anipang 2" launched in 2014, about 20,000 were analyzed to be top-level users enjoying the end content. In particular, a considerable number of them are known to rank within the top 50 in each round of the end content, as well as to enter the hall of fame as winners in many cases.
"Anipang 2" development team PD Jung Sung-won said, "In the domestic mobile puzzle genre, 'Anipang 2' would be the only case where users from their first year to 13th year compete as top players," adding, "We plan to develop and provide a service unique to 'Anipang 2' that Korea's top puzzle players and enthusiasts can enjoy."
