KakaoPay Securities posted operating profit of 63.1 billion won in the first half of this year, surpassing its full-year 2024 results in just six months. Boosted by investor fund inflows and an expanding base of stock-trading customers, its second-quarter operating profit also more than quadrupled from the same period a year earlier.
According to KakaoPay on the 4th, KakaoPay Securities recorded cumulative operating profit of 63.1 billion won in the first half of this year, up 407.2% from a year earlier. The figure is 47.3%, or 20.3 billion won, higher than the 42.8 billion won in annual operating profit posted last year.
Second-quarter operating profit came to 39.5 billion won, up 347.4% from 8.8 billion won in the same period last year. It also rose 67.9% compared with 23.6 billion won in the first quarter.
The improved performance was driven by growth in investor assets and trading customers. As of the end of the second quarter, total custody assets increased 279% year-on-year, while stock and pension assets rose 391%. Net investor funds flowing into domestic and overseas stock markets reached 4.8 trillion won.
The proportion of KakaoPay users who converted into regular stock-trading investors also topped 30%, up 20 percentage points from the same period last year. Analysts interpret the growth in custody assets as leading to an actual expansion in stock trading, improving profitability centered on brokerage services.
