新韩金融集团在投资者圆桌会上披露独立董事遴选原则修订及AI内控平台建设计划

Shinhan Financial Group (055550.KS) will revise its principles for selecting independent directors to bring in more people with hands-on experience in the financial industry. The group will also upgrade its governance and internal control systems, including the use of an artificial intelligence-based internal control platform to help business units meet their oversight duties.
Shinhan Financial Group said on the 30th that it shared these plans at a board roundtable held on the 27th of this month at the Grand Hyatt Seoul in Yongsan District, Seoul, for about 50 domestic and overseas institutional investors.
The event drew six independent directors, including Kwak Soo-keun, chairman of the Shinhan Financial Group board, along with senior executives including Jin Ok-dong, chairman of Shinhan Financial Group. The roundtable is an annual communication event where the group exchanges views with investors on its medium- to long-term strategy and governance.
Institutional investors discussed the group's medium- to long-term direction for raising corporate value, shareholder return plans, and evaluation and compensation systems for the board and management. Shinhan said at the meeting that it had overhauled its principles for selecting independent directors this year to increase the number of people with substantive experience in the financial industry. Under the new principles, the group plans to narrow its candidate pool using a Board Skills Matrix and strengthen the board's expertise.
That approach was also reflected in this year's board lineup. In March, Shinhan brought in Park Jong-bok, who served as chief executive of Standard Chartered Bank Korea for 10 years, as an independent director. The aim was to raise expertise by adding someone with experience in frontline management and governance to the board.
The group is also strengthening its internal control framework. In June, Shinhan became the first in the industry to build a group-wide AI-based internal control platform, which supports business units in carrying out their oversight duties. The group plans to improve the effectiveness of controls by using its group internal control committee to demand improvements where shortcomings are found.
"We will do our best to take investors' diverse views and advice as valuable groundwork and carry them through to sustainable growth," Jin said. Kwak also stressed the need to establish sound governance and responsible management.
