LIG Defense & Aerospace (LIG D&A) said an alleged bribery case involving its employees is unrelated to the 1.7 trillion won Electronic Warfare Aircraft (Block-I) system development project.
Prosecutors determined that some R&D projects evaluated by a Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) official implicated in the bribery case involved core or related technologies for the electronic warfare aircraft program. LIG D&A countered that there is no technical connection between those projects and the program's Critical Technology Elements (CTEs).
LIG D&A said in a statement on Aug. 21 that media reports claiming some projects involving the official affected the evaluation of the electronic warfare aircraft program were untrue. The company also stressed that the official did not participate as an evaluator for the system development project.
The controversy arose after LIG D&A employees were indicted on charges of providing bribes to a DAPA official in exchange for winning contracts. Prosecutors believe the official gave favorable evaluations to LIG D&A in six projects in which the official served as an evaluator between 2021 and 2025. They determined that three of those projects were used as core or related technologies for the electronic warfare aircraft system development program and affected the selection of the contractor.
LIG D&A denied any connection between the three projects and the electronic warfare aircraft program. "The projects in which the official participated as an evaluator are unrelated to the Critical Technology Elements of the electronic warfare aircraft program," the company said. "The weapon systems targeted by those projects are also not the electronic warfare aircraft." The company maintains that the projects cannot be regarded as preceding core technologies for the program.
The electronic warfare aircraft system development project aims to develop an aircraft capable of detecting and analyzing electronic signals generated by enemy radar and communications systems and neutralizing enemy air defense networks through electronic attacks. The project is worth 1.7 trillion won. LIG D&A was selected as the lead contractor for system development in December 2025.
LIG D&A said it won the electronic warfare aircraft project based on its existing technologies and project experience in electronic warfare. The company said it has secured relevant technologies through projects including electronic intelligence mission equipment for the new Baekdu reconnaissance aircraft, electronic warfare equipment for surface ships and submarines, and integrated electronic warfare equipment for the KF-21.
Regarding the bribery charges against its employees, LIG D&A said it plans to respond through judicial proceedings. "We deeply regret that our employees have been indicted," the company said. "We hope the specific facts will be clarified and the allegations resolved through legal proceedings, and we will actively cooperate if necessary."
The company also plans to review its internal control system and strengthen compliance to ensure transparent and fair business practices.
