Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) is holding a research paper competition to identify talent in the aerospace sector. The company has doubled this year's top prize to 10 million won from 5 million won.
KAI said on Aug. 27 that it began accepting submissions for the "2026 24th Aerospace Research Paper Competition" on Aug. 24. The competition is sponsored by the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA), Korea Aerospace Industries Association and the Korean Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences.
The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students in Korea with an interest in aerospace. KAI is accepting papers in five fields: mechanical engineering, materials and processes, electronics and electrical engineering, software (SW), and policy and management.
Research topics are linked to KAI's future businesses, including manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T), future SW, next-generation fixed-wing aircraft, rotorcraft, unmanned aerial vehicles and commercial aircraft, space solutions, and advanced air vehicles (AAV).
KAI has also increased the prize money this year. Two top-prize winners, receiving the KASA Administrator Award and the KAI chief executive officer (CEO) Award, will each receive 10 million won. Two excellence-award winners will each receive 5 million won. Lead authors of winning papers will be exempt from the document-screening stage when applying for KAI's open recruitment of new employees.
KAI and the Korean Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences will jointly evaluate the papers. KAI plans to announce the winners in early November and hold an awards ceremony later that month.
