Lssell, a faculty startup from the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST), is teaming up with POSCO International to enter overseas markets with next-generation solar cell film.
According to GIST on the 24th, Lssell and POSCO International signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) the previous day to explore the global industrialization of next-generation solar cell film. The MOU followed a decision last month by the "POSCO International CVC Fund," managed by POSCO Technology Investment, to invest 1 billion won in Lssell.
Through the agreement, the two companies plan to establish a business foundation for next-generation solar cell film and build an overseas marketing cooperation system utilizing POSCO International's global network. They will also jointly pursue the sharing of overseas market information, market development, the establishment of a joint business model, overseas marketing, and the discovery of new buyers.
Lssell develops next-generation solar cell film based on GIST's original technology and research infrastructure. The company was founded in 2022 by Lee Kwang-hee, a visiting distinguished scholar. The next-generation solar cell film developed by Lssell is lighter and more flexible than conventional silicon solar cells and can generate power even in low-light environments such as indoor lighting. Recently, the company has been expanding its application areas to include low-light photovoltaics, building-integrated photovoltaics, agrivoltaics, and mobility-integrated photovoltaics.
With this agreement, Lssell plans to accelerate its entry into overseas markets by leveraging POSCO International's global business capabilities and overseas networks.
"This agreement is an important opportunity that combines the technological capabilities of next-generation solar cell film with POSCO International's global business capabilities to further strengthen our foundation for entering overseas markets," said Lee Kwang-hee, CEO of Lssell. "Through close cooperation between the two companies, we will actively discover new buyers and overseas business opportunities, and enhance our global competitiveness to build a foundation for sustainable growth."
