Daewoong Pharmaceutical (069620.KS) has supplied thynC, an artificial intelligence-based smart bed monitoring system, to Ajou University Hospital. The hospital plans to review expanding the system, now running on 342 beds, to as many as 1,100 beds.
Daewoong Pharmaceutical said on Oct. 26 that full operation of thynC had begun across 342 beds in seven wards at Ajou University Hospital, including thoracic surgery, cardiology, the emergency ward and the integrated nursing care ward. The hospital began installing equipment and building infrastructure last year and carried out optimization work tailored to the clinical setting through August. It then expanded operation in September, centered on thoracic surgery and cardiology, before broadening the scope this month to the emergency ward and other units.
thynC uses wearable sensors worn by patients to measure key vital signs in real time, including electrocardiogram readings, heart rate, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation. It also offers AI-driven detection of falls and emergency arrhythmias. When an abnormal sign is detected, an alert appears on the ward monitoring screen to help medical staff respond quickly. Wireless communication allows patient status to be checked even while patients move within the ward.
The measurements are linked to electronic medical records, with the latest readings automatically logged at 60-second intervals. The system reduces the burden of repeated manual entry for medical staff and allows vital signs measured during hospitalization, along with records of electrocardiogram abnormalities, to be viewed and stored in report form.
Daewoong Pharmaceutical is expanding thynC sales mainly to tertiary general hospitals and major regional hospitals. As of this month, the system has been installed at 218 medical institutions and a cumulative 20,054 beds. The company plans to prepare usage guides tailored to patient characteristics and operating conditions at each institution to support adoption in the field.
Han Sang-wook, director of the Ajou University Medical Center, said the system is expected to further strengthen patient safety because it allows key vital signs of inpatients to be checked in real time and abnormal signs to be detected early. "Based on the operating results from the 342 beds currently in use, we are also reviewing an expansion to all 1,100 beds," the director said.
Lee Chang-jae, chief executive of Daewoong Pharmaceutical, said it was meaningful to supply thynC to Ajou University Hospital, which plays a central role in critical and emergency care in the southern Gyeonggi region, and to take part in building a smart ward that strengthens patient safety. "We will continue to strengthen cooperation with Ajou University Hospital and support the digital transformation of medical institutions in the southern Gyeonggi region and the creation of a patient-centered care environment," the CEO said.
